Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Whitepride Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cormier comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the Tiger. Whitepride Velasquez has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Daniel Cormier's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Whitepride Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cormier misses with a lunging right hand
and Velasquez counters with a head kick. That will keep Cormier thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Cormier throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Velasquez keeps Cormier at a distance using the push kick.
Cormier stuns Velasquez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Cormier gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Velasquez.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Cormier throws out a loose jab but Velasquez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Velasquez misses with a takedown attempt

so Cormier counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cormier trying to control the position from guard on top but Velasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cormier throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Velasquez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Cormier is looking to work some ground and pound but Velasquez has wrist control.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Daniel Cormier wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Velasquez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A slow jab from Velasquez misses its intended target.
Velasquez lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cormier keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cormier wants to try and get back to his feet.
Velasquez sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Velasquez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cormier tries to escape but Velasquez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Velasquez gets his hands free as Cormier looks to control.
Cormier is trying to stand back up.
Cormier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Velasquez on the ground.
Velasquez is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Velasquez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Velasquez throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

Velasquez is trying to stick to Cormier's back but Cormier is turning into Velasquez. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Velasquez's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Cormier.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cormier stands up over Velasquez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cormier wants to pass the guard but Velasquez is keeping the position.

Velasquez looking for a guillotine here but Cormier defends easily.
Cormier lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Whitepride Velasquez dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Nice sprawl there from Cormier as Velasquez shoots in.
Cormier throws a lazy uppercut
and Velasquez counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Cormier is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Cormier misses with a body shot.
Velasquez thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Cormier if he has to take too many more of those.
A left and a right from Cormier both land. Nice combination.
A left lands for Velasquez.
Velasquez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Daniel Cormier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cormier takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Cormier jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Velasquez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Cormier counters with a three punch combo that has Velasquez backing up. Velasquez nods at Cormier to acknowledge the strikes.
Cormier cracks a nice hook into Velasquez's ribs.
Cormier throws out a loose jab but Velasquez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Cormier takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Cormier throws a looping overhand right but Velasquez ducks down to avoid it.
Velasquez connects with a body shot that sends Cormier's belly button to the back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cormier takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Velasquez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Cormier goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Cormier misses with an uppercut. Velasquez saw that one coming.
A big right from Velasquez misses.

Cormier throws a right hand that misses
and Velasquez counters with a nice uppercut.
Whitepride Velasquez seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Cormier changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Velasquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Velasquez takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cormier wants to take a breather but Velasquez manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Cormier.

Velasquez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cormier defends it easily.
Cormier wants to stand but Velasquez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Velasquez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cormier controls the pace.
Velasquez has a closed guard, preventing Cormier from standing up.
Cormier is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cormier wants to pass the guard but Velasquez is keeping the position.

Velasquez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Velasquez is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Cormier rolls with it to try and escape but Velasquez cranks on the arm and Cormier is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
