PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kitsune Tsuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kitsune Tsuki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sammy Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kitsune Tsuki!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan looks to land a combination but Tsuki avoids it well.
Tsuki shoots for a double leg takedown but Sullivan sprawls well. He's pushed Tsuki's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sullivan lands a nice looking body shot.
Tsuki shoots in for a double leg but Sullivan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sullivan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Tsuki with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sullivan to score with a decent uppercut.
Tsuki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sullivan tries to avoid it but Tsuki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sullivan to the ground. Sullivan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sammy Sullivan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kitsune Tsuki.
Tsuki avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd cheers as Sullivan lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tsuki doesn't seem phased though.
Sullivan connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Tsuki has Sullivan up against the cage in a clinch.
Tsuki keeps control of Sullivan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Sullivan wants to get back to striking at distance but Tsuki won't allow it.

Tsuki is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sullivan gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Sullivan is trying to break free.
Tsuki has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sullivan avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Sullivan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tsuki tries to clinch up.
Sullivan throws a combination that misses

and Tsuki counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Sullivan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Tsuki trying to control but Sullivan is working from the bottom.
Tsuki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tsuki in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sullivan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tsuki is one step ahead there.
Tsuki throws a strike but Sullivan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sullivan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Tsuki manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sullivan's best efforts.

Tsuki looks gassed!
Sullivan is taking a breather. Tsuki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tsuki is trying to stand back up but Sullivan is controlling him
Sullivan passes to side control.
Tsuki tries to buck Sullivan off but Sullivan is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tsuki tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Sullivan presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammy Sullivan dominated that round.
That's time! Sullivan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sullivan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Tsuki tries to clinch there but Sullivan circles away.
Tsuki has his takedown stuffed
and Sullivan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kitsune Tsuki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sullivan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sullivan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sullivan misses with a few strikes there.
Sullivan thuds a left hand into Tsuki's body.
Tsuki gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sullivan.
Tsuki moves to clinch but Sullivan breaks away
and Sullivan counters with a nice body shot.
Tsuki is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tsuki blocks a head kick by Sullivan.
Sullivan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Sullivan moves into range and connects with a jab.
Sullivan is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Tsuki takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sullivan lands with a hook. Tsuki tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Sullivan lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Tsuki backs up against the cage.
Sullivan misses with a jab, cross combination.
A combination from Sullivan does no damage.
Sammy Sullivan is winning the standup battle so far.
Sullivan scores with a nice strike.
Sullivan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A bone on bone clash there as Tsuki blocks the leg kick.
Sullivan misses with the combination.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sullivan.
Sullivan throws a one two combo.
Tsuki moves forwards but Sullivan connects with a nice, crisp jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sullivan lands a glancing blow to the side of Tsuki's head.


Tsuki is rocked!
Sullivan is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Tsuki hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Sammy Sullivan!
