PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Allen Colozo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allen Colozo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Allen Colozo!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Dean Styles and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Colozo enables Johnson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Colozo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Colozo is retaining full guard.

Johnson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Colozo wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Colozo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Colozo in his guard.
Johnson controls Colozo momentarily but Colozo frees himself.

Johnson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Johnson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Colozo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Colozo scores with a kick to the body.
Johnson shoots for a takedown but Colozo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Colozo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Colozo.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Johnson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Colozo gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Colozo creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
The referee calls for Colozo to work.
Johnson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Colozo fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Colozo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.

Colozo drags the fight down to the ground.
Colozo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Johnson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Colozo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Colozo has escaped and now he's on top!
Colozo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Johnson is proving hard to escape from.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Colozo but Colozo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Colozo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Colozo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Colozo tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Colozo because Johnson loaded up on that one.
Colozo wants to control but Johnson is having none of it.

Johnson gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Colozo tries to clinch but Johnson moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Johnson.

Johnson is trying to get an arm triangle but Colozo is defending well.

Johnson fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Johnson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Colozo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Colozo tries to bench press Johnson off him but Johnson keeps the position.

Johnson swings around for an armbar but Colozo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Johnson's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Johnson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Johnson manages to end up in side control.

Johnson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Johnson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Colozo, who protects the arm well.

Johnson decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Colozo closes the distance looking to clinch

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Colozo tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg.

Johnson wants to work for an arm triangle but Colozo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Johnson is working for a kimura but Colozo is defending it quite comfortably.
Colozo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well, if Johnson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Johnson wants to work for an arm triangle but Colozo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Johnson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson is keen to just control but Colozo is a slippery customer.

Johnson is working for a submission of some sort.

Johnson stands up and beckons Colozo to join him on the feet.

Colozo gets tackled into the cage by Johnson. Johnson maintains the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Johnson showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
