PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Damo Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Lenin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns comes to the ring accompanied by acdc-highway to hell. Victor Lenin struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Victor Lenin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Damo Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Victor Lenin!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Lenin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Burns counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Lenin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burns's guard.
Burns could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Lenin looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Burns wants to stand but Lenin is controlling the position.
Lenin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lenin passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Lenin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Victor Lenin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Danga de danga de dang - Lenin scores with a four punch combination!
Burns shoots for a double leg takedown but Lenin sprawls well. He's pushed Burns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Burns shoots in and drives through. Lenin sprawls well.
Lenin throws a series of punches but Burns avoids them all with ease.

Burns fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lenin to the ground. Burns is now in Lenin's guard.
Lenin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Burns manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns controls Lenin momentarily but Lenin frees himself.
Lenin wants to control from the top but Burns keeps moving.

Lenin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Burns swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lenin stays in close to Burns's body and controls the position.

Damo Burns has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Burns closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lenin circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damo Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lenin throws a series of punches but Burns avoids them all with ease.
Burns fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lenin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lenin looks gassed!
Lenin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Burns paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Burns throws a jab when Lenin was well out of range.
Burns walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Lenin checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Burns loads up on a big right hand but Lenin slips the punch.

Burns closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Burns thows a huge punch but Lenin dodges it nicely.
Lenin wants to control but Burns is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Burns is looking for a kimura here.
Burns is just content to waste time from the top position. Lenin takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Burns wants to stand but Lenin is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lenin is looking to stand up but Burns isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Victor Lenin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Burns with a lazy takedown attempt

and Lenin counters by clinching up.
Burns wants to break free but Lenin has control.
Burns tries to pull guard but Lenin holds him up against the ropes and eventually Burns drops back down to his feet.
Burns drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lenin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damo Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A nice right hand lands inside from Burns.
Burns wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Lenin has him pressed against the ropes.
A short uppercut from Burns.
Burns has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lenin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lenin breaks the clinch.
Damo Burns is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lenin pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Burns back to the ropes. Lenin follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Burns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lenin as he avoids it easily.

Lenin tries to sprawl but Burns drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Lenin gets back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lenin is controlling Burns's posture.
Burns looking to sit in guard and control but Lenin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Burns can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lenin controls the pace.
Burns is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Victor Lenin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Horrible takedown by Burns or perhaps it was just good defense by Lenin which made him look bad.
Burns misses with a hook
and Lenin counters with a three punch combo that has Burns backing up. Burns nods at Lenin to acknowledge the strikes.

Burns feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lenin is on top in guard.
Lenin stays in close to Burns's body and controls the position.
Burns might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Lenin wants to control from the top but Burns keeps moving.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Victor Lenin was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Burns shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Burns is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lenin defends it well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lenin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lenin is trying to stand.
Burns has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Lenin works to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Victor Lenin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Burns is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burns thows a huge punch but Lenin dodges it nicely.

Burns is thwarting Lenin's attempts to control the position.
Burns wants to stand up but Lenin is controlling the position.
Burns sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lenin defending well though.
Burns wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lenin keeps working.

Burns looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Lenin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Burns.

Burns postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lenin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Burns, into his guard.
Lenin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lenin drops back looking for a leg! Burns is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Burns manages to kick Lenin off! Lenin jumps back into Burns's guard.
Lenin wants to control from the top but Burns keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lenin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burns has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lenin has managed to get both his arms back between Burns's legs - danger averted.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

I think Lenin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
