PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sider Mansaf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calix Blight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Blight's choice of entrance music: End Of Everything. Calix Blight told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blight is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mansaf's half guard.
Blight sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Mansaf defending well though.
Mansaf trying to hold on to Blight's head to control him but Blight postures up.
Mansaf gets back to full guard.

Mansaf wants to sweep but no luck.
Blight trying to control the position from guard on top but Mansaf is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mansaf is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Blight pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mansaf is keeping the position for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sider Mansaf.
Blight shoots and misses
and Mansaf connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Mansaf looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mansaf seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mansaf seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Blight for as long as he can get away with.

Mansaf gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Blight closes the distance but Mansaf moves to the side

and Mansaf counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Blight tries to roll over but Mansaf keeps him under control.

Blight wants to control but Mansaf is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Blight is trying to maintain the position but Mansaf is very close to passing his half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mansaf in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Sider Mansaf just wasn't active enough.

Blight gets caught flat footed, as Mansaf shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mansaf lands a couple of digs.
Mansaf working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mansaf wants to control from the top but Blight keeps moving.
Blight is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Blight had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mansaf defends it easily.

Blight is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mansaf defends well.

Blight controls Mansaf momentarily but Mansaf frees himself.
Mansaf trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mansaf wants to control from the top but Blight keeps moving.
Blight avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mansaf trying to control the position from guard on top but Blight is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sider Mansaf wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Blight gets a clinch.
Blight tries for a takedown but Mansaf manages to get underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sider Mansaf dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Blight shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Mansaf counters with a shoot takedown. Blight fights it but they end up in guard.
Mansaf knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Blight on the ground.
Blight can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mansaf controls the pace.
Sider Mansaf overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mansaf is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Blight not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blight is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Mansaf would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Mansaf has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Blight to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mansaf is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Blight pulls down on the head and he's put Mansaf to sleep! This one is all over!
