PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Meed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Edwards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Meed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meed gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Edwards counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Meed's guard now.
Meed preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Meed keeping moving, preventing Edwards from controlling successfully.
Meed is trying to control the position but Edwards postures up.

Meed is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Edwards is aware though and is defending well.
Edwards wants to get up but he can't break Meed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Edwards trying to control the position from guard on top but Meed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Edwards is looking to stand up but Meed won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edwards throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Edwards missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edwards tries to free his leg and advance position but Meed is retaining full guard.
Edwards throws a strike but Meed rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Meed drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Meed jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Edwards really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meed. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Meed trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Meed slips nicely into half guard.
Edwards is trying to stand.

Meed is trying to work for a kimura but Edwards is defending well.
Edwards is looking to improve his position.
Meed prevents Edwards from standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Meed is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Edwards sees it coming and defends easily.

Meed seems to be looking for submissions.

Meed is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Edwards defends it well.

Meed is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Edwards wants to get back to his feet.

Meed is keen to just control but Edwards is a slippery customer.
Edwards keeping control of the position.
Edwards is trying to stand.
Meed trying to control from half guard but Edwards is working away.
Edwards is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Meed thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Meed seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Edwards does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Meed looks for a takedown but Edwards sprawls well.

Edwards shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Edwards showed some decent athleticism there.
Edwards thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Meed's head.
Edwards wants to take a breather but Meed is having none of it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Meed blocking the ground and pound attempt from Edwards.
Meed avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Edwards.
Edwards looks gassed!
Edwards missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Meed looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Meed wants to control but Edwards is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Edwards dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Meed shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Edwards counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Edwards.

Edwards must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Meed has momentary wrist control but Edwards slips an elbow through the middle.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Edwards distracts Meed with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Meed has his feet on Edwards's thighs here. He's pushed Edwards off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Edwards screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
