PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jarkko Bergele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Waltteri Lahti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jarkko Bergele!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Waltteri Lahti!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bergele closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lahti's guard.
Bergele lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bergele thows a big elbow that misses.

Lahti working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bergele doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bergele manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lahti has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bergele is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lahti.

Bergele is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lahti is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lahti is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bergele connects with a decent elbow.
Lahti is pushing Bergele's head away, looking to escape. Bergele manages to hold on to the position though.

Lahti takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Bergele has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bergele pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Bergele throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lahti jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Lahti punishes Bergele's body with a nice straight punch.

Lahti bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bergele's head backwards.
Bergele gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lahti.

Bergele shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Lahti tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Bergele manages to move to mount!

Bergele has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lahti's face.

Bergele tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
BOOM! Bergele connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Lahti is bucking up trying to escape but Bergele cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Bergele has control of Lahti's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lahti regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Bergele throws a hook but Lahti blocks it.

Bergele working for a guillotine from mount but Lahti is in no mood to give up.

Bergele is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Lahti is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Lahti flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Bergele anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Lahti and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Bergele slips an arm under Lahti chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Bergele has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Bergele is squeezing on Lahti like an anaconda would it's prey. Lahti fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
