PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sami Kuristaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Angel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sami Kuristaja!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank Angel!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Kuristaja there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kuristaja misses with a low kick.
Kuristaja lands with a kick to the temple. Angel shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Angel misses with a straight right.
Angel avoids the head kick by Kuristaja.
Kuristaja looks to land a body kick but Angel moved away.
Kuristaja throws a low kick but it's checked well by Angel.

Angel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kuristaja pinned against the cage. Kuristaja gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Angel doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kuristaja counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Angel is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Angel drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Angel jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sami Kuristaja.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Angel closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Angel seems to be working for a kimura but Kuristaja defends the submission attempt.
Kuristaja on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kuristaja tries to get out of the position.

Angel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kuristaja but Kuristaja pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Angel throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kuristaja tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Angel is in Kuristaja's guard.

Angel tries to free his leg and advance position but Kuristaja is retaining full guard.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
