PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Mallon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Gleiser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael Gleiser!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallon lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Michael Gleiser has been cut.

Gleiser passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mallon seems a little lost for a moment, as Gleiser dominates the positioning.
It looks like Gleiser might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Michael Gleiser has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Gleiser throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mallon's waist but Mallon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gleiser off to one side.

Gleiser shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mallon sprawls well. Mallon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gleiser gets slowly back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Horrible takedown by Gleiser or perhaps it was just good defense by Mallon which made him look bad.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mallon trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Michael Gleiser wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mallon scores with a sloppy right hand. Gleiser should have avoided that one.

and Mallon makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Mallon cracks Gleiser with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Mallon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Michael Gleiser's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Mallon lands a nice shot that snaps Gleiser's head back.
Mallon lands with a nice body punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Gleiser walks into a left hand.

Gleiser has Mallon up against the cage in a clinch.

Gleiser trying to land knees to the body.
Mallon is trying to force a seperation but Gleiser has the dominant position.
Mallon has had enough of the clinch but Gleiser keeps him there for the moment.

Gleiser is trying to trip Mallon. He has hold of a leg but Mallon is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gleiser persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mallon wants to stand but Gleiser is controlling the position.
Gleiser engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Gleiser passes Mallon's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Gleiser is breathing heavily.

Gleiser uses his free foot to push down on Mallon's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mallon.
Gleiser lands a big shot there that rocks Mallon but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mallon wants to hold on but Gleiser pushes him away.
Gleiser content just to control the position here.

Mallon wants to control but Gleiser is having none of it.

Gleiser takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Let's hope that Gleiser has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Michael Gleiser.
Mallon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mallon wants it to stay on the feet.
Mallon ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Mallon shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Gleiser eats them both and turns towards Mallon to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Danny Mallon is winning the standup battle so far.
Mallon slaps away a takedown attempt from Gleiser, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mallon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A right-left combo lands from Mallon.
Mallon takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mallon connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Gleiser falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mallon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Gleiser showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Mallon looks to land a combination. Gleiser sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Michael Gleiser's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
