PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Odda Nabonaga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nabonaga comes to the cage accompanied by Thief's Theme by Nas. Kurt Meyer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meyer takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nabonaga keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Meyer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Nabonaga manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nabonaga throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nabonaga fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Meyer manages to avoid it.
Meyer throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meyer lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nabonaga circles away quickly and effectively.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Nabonaga throws a hook to the side of Meyer's head but Meyer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Meyer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nabonaga.
Meyer takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kurt Meyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A decent looking cross lands there for Meyer.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Meyer swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Nabonaga counters with a body kick that stops Meyer in his tracks momentarily.
Nabonaga throws a hook but Meyer avoids it easily.
Meyer fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Nabonaga checks it well.
Meyer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Nabonaga counters with a right hand to the body.

Meyer fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Nabonaga has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Nabonaga on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Meyer swings away with a body shot that misses
and Nabonaga counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Meyer walks forward, straight into a front kick from Nabonaga.

and Nabonaga counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nabonaga is looking to wear down Meyer with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Nabonaga on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Meyer is looking to clinch but Nabonaga is avoiding it.

and Nabonaga connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Meyer throws out a leg kick but Nabonaga moves out of range and Meyer only half commits.

Nabonaga misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Meyer.
Kurt Meyer seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Nabonaga counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Meyer thinking.

and Nabonaga counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nabonaga misses with a looping left.
Meyer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Nabonaga throws a head kick that Meyer semi-blocks.

and Nabonaga counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Meyer in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Nabonaga counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Meyer will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Meyer closes the distance but Nabonaga moves to the side
and Nabonaga counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Meyer is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Nabonaga takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Nabonaga is rocked!
Nabonaga backs away from a small jab...but Meyer lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Nabonaga crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Meyer with a spectacular finish!
