PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kent Hytten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hulk Hogin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hytten comes into the arena with Wait and Bleed blaring out of the sound system. Hogin has chosen real american as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kent Hytten has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kent Hytten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hulk Hogin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hytten misses with a looping left.
Hogin checks a leg kick.
Hytten lands with a cross.
Hytten throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Hytten throws an off balance right hand
enabling Hogin to counter with a crisp jab.
Hogin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hytten rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hogin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hytten waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hogin.
Hytten misses with a looping left.
Hogin misses the body punch
and Hytten counters with a thumping low kick.
A head kick misses from Hytten.
Hogin throws a poor cross that misses
and Hytten counters with a slapping leg kick.

and Hogin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hogin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hytten will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hytten wants to get back to his feet but Hogin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hogin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hogin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hytten wants to stand and escape but Hogin is having none of it.
Hogin trying to control the position from guard on top but Hytten is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Hytten looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hogin postures up.
Hogin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hytten pulls Hogin in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hytten throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hogin sees it coming and avoids it easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hogin misses with an uppercut.
Kent Hytten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hogin tries to close the distance and clinch but Hytten swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hogin blocks a head kick by Hytten.
Nice defenses there by Hytten.
Hogin walks into a left hand.
Hytten getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hytten slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Hogin throws an off balance right hand
and Hytten counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Hogin takes a swing at Hytten's ribcage but misses.
Hytten lands a leg kick that knocks Hogin off balance momentarily.
Hogin shoots in for a double leg but Hytten sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hytten throws a half hearted mid kick.

Hogin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Hytten here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Hytten is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hogin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hogin is taking a breather. Hytten says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hytten tries to roll over but Hogin keeps him under control.
Hogin throws a strike but Hytten avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hogin stands up over Hytten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hogin looking to sit in guard and control but Hytten gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hytten wants to control from the top but Hogin keeps moving.
Hogin has control of Hytten's left arm, preventing Hytten from doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hogin misses the shot to the body.
Hogin shoots for a double leg takedown but Hytten sprawls well. He's pushed Hogin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hytten attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hytten throws a body punch but Hogin moves out of range.
Hytten connects with the punch.
Hytten fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hogin.
Hytten throws a looping overhand right but Hogin ducks down to avoid it.
Hogin tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hytten manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A solid leg kick lands there for Hytten.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kent Hytten dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Hogin takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Hogin takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Hytten throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Hytten throws a leg kick but Hogin sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Hytten throws a right hand that misses

and Hogin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hogin lands a right hand.
Hytten crunches a lovely knee into Hogin's ribcage.
Hytten connects with a knee to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hytten tries to break the clinch but Hogin is controlling the position.
Hytten misses with a knee strike.
Hytten is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Hogin tries to land a knee to the head but Hytten blocks with his arms.
Hytten with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Hogin throws a knee to the head but misses.
Hytten tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Hytten tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Hogin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Hytten prevents a takedown attempt there.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hytten has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Hytten manages to break the clinch.
Hytten fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

and Hogin counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hulk Hogin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hogin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hytten defends it nicely.
Hytten throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hogin.

Horrible takedown by Hogin or perhaps it was just good defense by Hytten which made him look bad.
Kent Hytten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hulk Hogin.

Hytten wants to get back to his feet but Hogin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Kent Hytten is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hytten, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
