PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gennaro Gatusso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gennaro Gatusso told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gennaro Gatusso!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gatusso moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gatusso with a lazy takedown attempt

and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gatusso!
Silva looking to control but Gatusso is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Silva controlling his opponent.
Gatusso can't escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gatusso is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Silva wants to stand but Gatusso is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Gatusso is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jake Silva just wasn't active enough.
Silva throws out a loose jab but Gatusso uses good head movement to avoid it.
Silva lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Gatusso has his takedown stuffed

so Silva counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gatusso bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gatusso pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.
Gatusso passes into half guard.

Gatusso is keen to just control but Silva is a slippery customer.
Gatusso moves nicely into side control.
Gatusso passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Silva!
Gatusso seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Silva is holding on tight.
Gatusso looking to control but Silva is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Gatusso is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Silva has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Silva is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gatusso wants to take Silva's back here but Silva is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Silva has given up his back here. Will Gatusso look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Gatusso is looking for the choke from the back position but Silva is controlling his hands well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gatusso is trying to control but Silva is trying to escape here - he's now mounted.

Gatusso working for a guillotine from mount but Silva is in no mood to give up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gennaro Gatusso will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice defenses there by Gatusso.

Silva shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Silva was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gatusso is desperately trying to improve his position but Silva has a good base and remains in mount.

Silva is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Gatusso is looking to get to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jake Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gatusso regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Silva escapes and gets back to his feet.
Silva throws a series of punches but Gatusso moves out of range.

Silva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Silva lands in his opponent's guard.
Gatusso bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Silva dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Silva misses with a hook. Gatusso ducked under it nicely.
Silva misses with a two punch combination.

Silva shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gatusso is trying to defend but Silva finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
It looks like Silva is going to stand back up.
Gatusso is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gatusso is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Silva pulls his head out easily.

Silva decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Silva throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Silva tries to bum rush Gatusso with a series of wild strikes but Gatusso uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Silva scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Silva closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gatusso did well to prevent Silva getting side control.
Gatusso wants to improve his position but Silva is controlling well.

Silva stands up out of the half guard.
Silva throws a right hand that Gatusso ducks under and follows up with a left that Gatusso also avoids with ease.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gatusso circles away quickly and effectively.
Silva missing with a left hand there. Gatusso was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Silva misses with a wild combination.

Silva fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gatusso sprawls well initially but Silva persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Gatusso trying to control from the bottom.
Gatusso is looking to improve his position.
Gatusso regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva wants to stand but Gatusso has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jake Silva just wasn't active enough.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gatusso.
Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Silva tries to land a leg kick but Gatusso saw it coming and moves away.
Silva misses with a double jab.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
