PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Willy Cody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Willy Cody!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jin Takeda!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cody throws out a leg kick but Takeda moves out of range and Cody only half commits.
Takeda misses with a double jab
and Cody makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Cody doesn't manage to clinch there - Takeda circles away.
Takeda misses with a wild combination.
Nice sprawl there from Cody as Takeda shoots in.
Takeda tries to close the distance and clinch but Cody swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cody throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A nice inside leg kick there by Cody. That's going to slow Takeda down.
Takeda swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Takeda throws a combination that misses
and Cody counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Takeda is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Sloppy strikes from Takeda. Those never looked like landing.
Cody pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cody misses with a low kick.
Takeda avoids the head kick by Cody.

Takeda closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cody to the mat! Cody manages to get full guard.
Cody not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Takeda drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cody manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Takeda has Cody in his guard.
Takeda bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cody's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Takeda tries to free his leg and advance position but Cody is retaining full guard.

Takeda postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cody is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takeda, into his guard.
Cody has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Takeda is proving hard to escape from.

Takeda is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Takeda looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takeda is looking for a triangle here but Cody uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Takeda regains half guard.

Takeda looking for submissions off his back.

Takeda looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Takeda tries to get to full guard but Cody has control of the leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cody tries to stand and escape but Takeda is controlling the position.

Cody stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Takeda to get to his feet.
Some wild striking there from Takeda.
A right-left combo lands from Takeda.
A head kick by Cody misses
and Takeda counters with a straight right hand.
Takeda blocks a head kick by Cody.
Cody tries to clinch but Takeda moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Willy Cody will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Takeda counters with a three punch combo that has Cody backing up. Cody nods at Takeda to acknowledge the strikes.
Cody turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Takeda throws a right and a left that Cody avoids nicely.
Cody is looking to clinch but Takeda is avoiding it.
Takeda avoids the head kick by Cody.
Takeda fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
A head kick by Cody misses
and Takeda counters with a three punch combo that has Cody backing up. Cody nods at Takeda to acknowledge the strikes.
Takeda misses with a leg kick
and Cody counters with a low kick, right behind Takeda 's knee.
Cody throws a nice head kick!
Cody throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Willy Cody seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Cody. No joy for Takeda on that attempt.

Takeda connects with a jab.
Cody tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cody darts in trying to clinch
letting Takeda counter with a right hand.
Takeda shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cody but Cody pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Takeda avoids the head kick by Cody.
Cody tries to clinch but Takeda is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cody tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cody throws a sloppy head kick and Takeda moves out of range easily.
Cody pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Takeda throws a right and a left that Cody avoids nicely.
Takeda falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cody counters with an inside leg kick.
Cody throws a sloppy head kick and Takeda moves out of range easily.
Cody throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Takeda looks to land a combination but Cody avoids it well.
Jin Takeda is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Takeda stuns Cody with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Cody is looking to clinch.
Takeda throws a series of strikes that have Cody backpedaling.
Cody leaves Takeda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Willy Cody has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jin Takeda.
Takeda doesn't manage to clinch there - Cody circles away.
Cody tries a head kick but it misses.
A right-left combo lands from Takeda.
Willy Cody is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cody goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Cody connects with a high kick.
Cody fails with an attempt to clinch.

Takeda fails to land the takedown.
Cody throws a head kick but Takeda moves out of range.
Cody misses with a jab, cross combination.
Takeda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cody tries to avoid it but Takeda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cody to the ground. Cody escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cody darts in trying to clinch

and Takeda counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Cody!

Takeda working for a submission but Cody is keeping him at bay.

Takeda working for a guillotine from mount but Cody is in no mood to give up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Takeda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Cody, right into the meat.
Takeda shoots for a takedown but Cody saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Takeda scores with a one two! Cody had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Cody lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Cody fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Takeda is out of range.
Takeda checks a low kick from Cody.
Takeda shoots in and drives through. Cody sprawls well.

Cody gets caught flat footed, as Takeda shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cody can't keep his opponent in guard - Takeda advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Takeda is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cody blocking the ground and pound attempt from Takeda.

Takeda is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Takeda looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cody tries to kick Takeda off but Takeda keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Takeda is trying to work for a kimura but Cody is defending well.

Takeda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cody sees it coming and defends easily.

Takeda is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cody doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Takeda.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Takeda is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Takeda prevents Cody from standing back up.
Takeda not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Cody is refusing to be controlled, as Takeda sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cody looks like he's trying to stand up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Takeda is working for a kimura but Cody is defending it quite comfortably.

Takeda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cody sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cody pushes Takeda off and gets back to his feet.
Cody lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jin Takeda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Takeda has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
