PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luigi Calvante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mariusz Gorawski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gorawski has chosen Three Six Mafia - It's a fight as his entrance music. Mariusz Gorawski is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luigi Calvante!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mariusz Gorawski!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calvante dodges the punch combination from Gorawski.
Gorawski moves out of range as Calvante strikes.
Calvante slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Gorawski throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A telegraphed right hand from Calvante misses the target.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gorawski gets caught flat footed, as Calvante shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gorawski wants to get back to his feet.

Calvante is working for a kimura but Gorawski is defending it quite comfortably.

Calvante is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gorawski is just riding it out for now. Calvante eventually gives up the hold.

Calvante looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gorawski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Calvante. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gorawski can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Calvante is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gorawski defends it well.

Calvante drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gorawski manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Calvante has Gorawski in his guard.
Gorawski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Calvante manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gorawski manages to get himself to full guard.
Calvante is pushing down on Gorawski's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gorawski is fighting to maintain full guard but Calvante has managed to sneak the leg through.

Calvante wants to free his trapped foot but Gorawski is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Calvante could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gorawski is refusing to be controlled, as Calvante sits in half guard.
Calvante looks to land a strike but Gorawski avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Gorawski utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gorawski keeping moving, preventing Calvante from controlling successfully.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Luigi Calvante.

Gorawski rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Calvante moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Calvante throws the left hand but Gorawski avoids the punch easily.
Calvante shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gorawski throws a looping overhand right but Calvante ducks down to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luigi Calvante dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Calvante closes the distance and clinches up with Gorawski, looking for a takedown. Calvante pushes Gorawski against the ropes but Gorawski circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
