PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vick Rub (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bull has chosen do it as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vick Rub!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Bull!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rub misses with a takedown
and Bull counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rub tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Bull counters with a nice uppercut.
Rub tries to clinch
and Bull counters with a straight right hand.
Rub has his takedown stuffed
and Bull counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Bull's corner calls for a 1-2. Bull obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Bull misses with a hook.

Rub gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rub fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vick Rub. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Still in the clinch, Bull scores with a nice short uppercut.
Bull will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Rub up against the ropes.

Bull is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rub is keeping busy.

Bull tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rub's elbow.
Rub jumps guard but Bull stands there with Rub around his waist. Rub gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Bull.

Bull pulls guard effortlessly.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bull is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rub would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bull manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rub manages to get himself to full guard.

Rub kicks Bull off and gets to his feet.

and Bull cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rub gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Bull decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rub's guard.
Bull stops Rub from standing up.
Bull loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rub wants to stand and escape but Bull is having none of it.
Bull is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Rub is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rub is edging up against the ropes. He's using the ropes to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roy Bull dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Bull cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rub with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Bull to score with a decent uppercut.

and Bull counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Rub!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vick Rub. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rub is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

You get the feeling that Rub really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Bull fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bull is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rub can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bull postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rub looks a forlorn figure.

Rub's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Bull swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
