PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jean Moutarde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronin Ryota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jean Moutarde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronin Ryota!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryota takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Moutarde counters with a single leg into guard. Ryota didn't expect that.

Ryota misses with a takedown attempt

and Moutarde counters with a shoot takedown. Ryota fights it but they end up in guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Moutarde fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ryota sprawls well initially but Moutarde persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Moutarde shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ryota is trying to defend but Moutarde finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

It looks like Moutarde is going to stand back up.
Moutarde could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Moutarde trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Moutarde is looking to stand up but Ryota won't let him.
Moutarde tries to free his leg and advance position but Ryota is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ryota tries to clinch up but Moutarde circles away and keeps his distance.

Moutarde throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ryota was covering up waiting for the punch and Moutarde finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ryota manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Moutarde manages to get himself to full guard.
Moutarde is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ryota drops back looking for a leg! Moutarde is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Moutarde manages to kick Ryota off! Ryota jumps back into Moutarde's guard.
Moutarde might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ryota slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Moutarde.

Moutarde strikes from the bottom but Ryota uses the opportunity to move to side control.

Ryota decides to stand up, so the ref orders Moutarde to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Ryota is breathing heavily.
Moutarde is trying to control. Ryota wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Moutarde changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ryota looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Moutarde takes a little break here. Ryota wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Moutarde is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Moutarde is taking a breather. Ryota says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Moutarde knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ryota on the ground.

Moutarde drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ryota looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ryota looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ryota!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Moutarde is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ryota's half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Moutarde connects with a nice short shot to Ryota's temple.

Well Moutarde has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
