PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jussi Koivusalo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seppo Salamurhaaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jussi Koivusalo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koivusalo throws a series of punches but Salamurhaaja avoids them all with ease.
Salamurhaaja explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
The fight stays on the outside here - Koivusalo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Koivusalo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Koivusalo throws a low kick, looking for Salamurhaaja's leg but Salamurhaaja calmly moves out of range.

Koivusalo gets caught flat footed, as Salamurhaaja shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Koivusalo can't keep his opponent in guard - Salamurhaaja advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Salamurhaaja thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Koivusalo's head.

Koivusalo wants to control but Salamurhaaja is keeping busy.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koivusalo controls the position.

Koivusalo wants to hold on but Salamurhaaja pushes him away.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salamurhaaja avoids the attempt from Koivusalo to control.
Koivusalo is desperately trying to improve his position but Salamurhaaja has a good base and remains in mount.

Koivusalo wants to hold on but Salamurhaaja pushes him away.

Salamurhaaja is working for a guillotine from mount but Koivusalo frees his head quite easily.
BOOM! Salamurhaaja connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Koivusalo is looking to clinch.
Koivusalo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Salamurhaaja uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Koivusalo has time to react.

It looks like Jussi Koivusalo has been cut.
Salamurhaaja misses with a wild combination.

Salamurhaaja drives through and clinches with Koivusalo against the cage.

Salamurhaaja escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Koivusalo blocks a head kick by Salamurhaaja.
Salamurhaaja throws a right and a left that both miss.
Seppo Salamurhaaja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Salamurhaaja swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Some wild striking there from Salamurhaaja.
Koivusalo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Salamurhaaja as he avoids it easily.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A slapping leg kick lands for Koivusalo.

Koivusalo has closed the distance and engaged Salamurhaaja in a clinch.

Koivusalo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Koivusalo throws a sloppy head kick
and Salamurhaaja counters with a left and a right that stings Koivusalo.

Koivusalo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Salamurhaaja looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Koivusalo controls the position.
Koivusalo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Salamurhaaja struggling a bit here.
Salamurhaaja is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Salamurhaaja has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Koivusalo is working away from the top position though.
Koivusalo works his way into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Salamurhaaja wants to clinch.
A head kick misses from Koivusalo.
Salamurhaaja misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Koivusalo counters with an inside leg kick.
Salamurhaaja looks to land a combination but Koivusalo avoids it well.
Koivusalo is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

It looks like Seppo Salamurhaaja has been cut.
Koivusalo lands a big head kick that sends Salamurhaaja to the canvas! Koivusalo follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
