PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zack Nery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kakihara Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallace has chosen Stop being greedy - DMX as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Kakihara Wallace told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace stuffs the takedown attempt from Nery. Nery gets slowly back to his feet.
Wallace stuffs the takedown.
Wallace throws a lazy head kick

so Nery counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Wallace wants to stand up but Nery is controlling him.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Nery trying to control but Wallace is working from the bottom.
Nery pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wallace is keeping the position for now.
Wallace really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nery. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wallace holds on and takes a little breather.
Nery wants to pass the guard but Wallace is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Nery throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Nery being controlled here momentarily.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kakihara Wallace hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Wallace lands a left and a right that send Nery crashing to the mat, dazed. Wallace thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Zack Nery has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wallace lands a big uppercut and Nery crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Nery looks OK. Wallace waves Nery back to his feet!
Wallace fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Nery changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wallace tries to avoid it but Nery manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wallace to the ground. Wallace escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zack Nery. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nery is breathing heavily.
Wallace avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nery checks the leg kick nicely there.
Nice cross by Wallace.
Nery shoots in but Wallace avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Wallace drops Nery with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Nery looks back up at him and smiles so Wallace waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Nery is rocked!
Wallace is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nery is aggressively charging in as Wallace backs up avoiding any damage. Wallace tosses out a jab and Nery runs right into it face first! Nery is out cold! Wallace dropped down on all fours and is barking in Nery's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kakihara Wallace!
