PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brett Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lertphong Thongoon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gray might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Liquid Tension Experiment - Acid Rain. Lertphong Thongoon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brett Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lertphong Thongoon!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gray throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Thongoon counters with a stiff right hand.
Thongoon moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Thongoon pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Thongoon misses with a head kick.

Gray is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Thongoon's half guard.
Thongoon is looking for a sweep. Gray is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Gray working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thongoon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gray's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gray looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gray lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Thongoon!

BOOM! Gray connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Gray throws some wild stikes that Thongoon manages to avoid easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gray misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gray closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thongoon quickly recovers to half guard.

Gray wants to take a breather but Thongoon is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brett Gray wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Thongoon stuffs the takedown attempt from Gray. Gray gets slowly back to his feet.
Thongoon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gray closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Gray throws a strike but Thongoon avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Gray postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Thongoon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gray, into his guard.
Gray tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gray wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Thongoon is now in half guard.
Gray manages to get to full guard.
Thongoon is looking to advance position but Gray has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Thongoon wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gray.

Gray is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Thongoon is surviving well by controlling Gray's body position as best he can.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Thongoon connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Gray drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Thongoon dives on top into guard.

Gray tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thongoon was well out of range. Poor timing from Gray.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Thongoon.

Gray shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thongoon but Thongoon pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gray drops down looking for an ankle pick but Thongoon pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brett Gray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Thongoon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gray, pushing him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gray has Thongoon pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Thongoon manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lertphong Thongoon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gray tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thongoon just stands there and leans against the cage.
