PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rain The Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Murphy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murphy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Loyal to No One kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rain The Pain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Murphy!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Pain throws a left and a right that both miss
and Murphy counters with a nice uppercut.
The Pain with a lazy takedown attempt
enabling Murphy to counter with a crisp jab.
The Pain moves to clinch but Murphy breaks away
and Murphy counters with a stiff right hand.
The Pain tries to clinch but Murphy moves away
and Murphy cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The Pain gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The Pain looking for a guillotine here but Murphy defends easily.
Murphy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murphy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Pain swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Murphy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The Pain trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Murphy passes The Pain's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. The Pain manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Murphy pushes down on The Pain's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Murphy performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The Pain has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Murphy is working away from the top position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
The Pain with a poor takedown

and Murphy counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Murphy not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Murphy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Pain swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman Murphy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The Pain shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Murphy counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Murphy.

Murphy has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but The Pain regains guard immediately.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now The Pain is on top in guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Murphy has control of The Pain's left arm, preventing The Pain from doing any damage.

The Pain passes into half guard.
The Pain wants to take a breather but Murphy is having none of it.
The Pain throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Murphy kicks off The Pain and gets to his feet.
The Pain has his takedown stuffed
and Murphy counters with a head kick. That will keep The Pain thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Murphy counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Murphy.

The Pain keeping full guard, as Murphy tries to pass.
Murphy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Murphy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Rain The Pain wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Murphy gets a clinch.

Murphy is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. The Pain can't fight it off and eventually Murphy manages to take the fight to the floor. The Pain looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The Pain not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Murphy wants to control from the top but The Pain keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
The Pain tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Murphy counters with a takedown into side control.
Murphy is trying to move to mount but The Pain reverses beautifully and ends up in Murphy's guard.

The Pain throws and elbow that misses. Murphy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in The Pain's guard. Nice move by Murphy!

Roman Murphy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

The Pain is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Murphy wants to pass the guard but The Pain is keeping the position.
The Pain is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Murphy is pressing down on The Pain's thigh, looking to free his foot. The Pain is holding on for now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Murphy not doing much here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Let's hope that Murphy has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The Pain drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Murphy dives on top into guard.

Roman Murphy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Murphy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
