PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kelemi Kakuno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Machuchin Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machuchin Dillon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kelemi Kakuno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Machuchin Dillon!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dillon fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kakuno misses with a low kick.
Kakuno misses with a hook.
Kakuno misses with a lunging right hand
and Dillon counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Kakuno throws a combination that misses
and Dillon counters with a stiff right hand.
Kakuno misses with a right hand
and Dillon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Dillon misses with a double jab

and Kakuno counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Kakuno has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kakuno misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Dillon's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kakuno unloads with some shots from mount but Dillon bucks and avoids them well.
Poor strikes thrown by Kakuno there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Dillon is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Kakuno won't let Dillon get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Kakuno has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kakuno throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Dillon because Kakuno loaded up on that one.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A punch lands to the side of Kakuno 's head but he takes it in his stride.
A telegraphed right hand from Dillon misses the target.

enabling Kakuno to counter with a crisp jab.
Kakuno misses with a looping left.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kakuno, as that shot connected.
Kakuno is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dillon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Dillon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Dillon uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kakuno.
Kakuno tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dillon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kakuno somewhat.

Dillon shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Kakuno looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Kakuno counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Dillon thinking.

and Kakuno connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Kakuno tries to land a front kick but Dillon steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Kakuno counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Some bone on bone action there as Kakuno checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Kakuno just misses with a punch to the body.
Dillon avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kakuno moves forwards but Dillon connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Kakuno looks for the body kick but Dillon saw that one coming.
Kakuno misses with a right hand
and Dillon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kakuno's corner calls for a 1-2. Kakuno obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Dillon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kakuno swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kakuno tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dillon swivels and escapes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dillon misses with a left hand
and Kakuno counters with a nice uppercut.
Kakuno misses with a wild combination.
Kakuno tries for a takedown but Dillon sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kelemi Kakuno. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kakuno throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Dillon shoots in and drives through. Kakuno sprawls well.

Dillon lands with a hook. Kakuno tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Machuchin Dillon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Dillon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dillon misses with a hook. Kakuno ducked under it nicely.
Dillon throws out a loose jab but Kakuno uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kakuno ducks right into an uppercut from Dillon.
Dillon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kakuno counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dillon is lucky that one didn't land flush.

and Kakuno counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kakuno throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Kakuno thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Dillon to regain full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kakuno postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dillon wants to stand up but Kakuno is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kelemi Kakuno.
Dillon has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Dillon there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kakuno connects with a solid leg kick.
Dillon misses with a double jab.
Kakuno misses with a wild body shot.
Dillon misses with a takedown attempt
and Kakuno counters with a nice uppercut.
Kakuno throws a body kick the misses
and Dillon counters with a stiff right hand.

Kelemi Kakuno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dillon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A slapping body kick lands there for Kakuno.
A left lands for Kakuno.
Kakuno tries to close the distance and clinch but Dillon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dillon throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Kakuno counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kakuno.
Kakuno wants to control from the top but Dillon keeps moving.
Kakuno throws and elbow that misses. Dillon uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kakuno's guard. Nice move by Dillon!

And that's the end of the fight!
Kelemi Kakuno showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kakuno has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
