PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zvi Fantl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Akons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fantl comes into the arena with Westside Connection - Bow Down blaring out of the sound system. Aaron Akons told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zvi Fantl!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aaron Akons!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akons is looking to slow Fantl down with leg kicks.

Fantl decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Akons is trying to control but can't.
Akons trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Fantl manages to pass to mount!
Fantl seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Akons is holding on tight.
Fantl throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Akons because Fantl loaded up on that one.
Fantl thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Fantl prevents Akons from getting the reversal.
Akons is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Fantl has hold of Akons's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Akons manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Akons is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Fantl goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Akons turns into him and now he's in Fantl's guard.

Fantl is looking for a triangle but Akons pushes his legs off easily.

Fantl is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Akons defends well.
Akons would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Akons wanted to stand there but Fantl had control of the position.

Fantl looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantl escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Akons gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fantl is looking for a triangle but Akons pushes his legs off easily.

Fantl is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fantl is on top in guard.
Akons wants to stand and escape but Fantl is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Akons throws a nice outside leg kick.
Akons lands a high kick!
Fantl shoots and misses
and Akons counters with a nice low kick that buckles Fantl's knee momentarily.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Fantl will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Akons is looking to slow Fantl down with leg kicks.
Akons connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Fantl momentarily.
Fantl shoots in for a double leg but Akons sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fantl stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Akons.

Akons tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Fantl manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fantl shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Akons but Akons pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Akons finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Akons forces Fantl back against the cage and clinches.
Fantl has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Akons avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Akons escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Fantl closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Akons quickly recovers to half guard.

Akons is controlling Fantl's trapped leg to prevent Fantl from advancing to side control.

Fantl looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fantl is nestled in close to Akons, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Akons kicks off Fantl and gets to his feet.
Fantl swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Fantl gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Akons counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Fantl counters with a shoot takedown. Akons fights it but they end up in guard.
Fantl wants to control from the top but Akons keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Aaron Akons will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Akons wants to clinch up but Fantl keeps it at a distance.

and Akons counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Akons uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fantl.

and Fantl counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Akons's guard now.

Fantl is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Akons doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fantl.

Fantl is pressing down on Akons's thigh, looking to free his foot. Akons is holding on for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Akons is staying active underneath Fantl, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Akons tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Fantl manages to move to mount!

Fantl moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Akons has worked his arm free - good work by Akons!

Fantl wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Akons, who protects the arm well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zvi Fantl showed his dominance in that final round.
