PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wes Miles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walter Hannedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miles comes to the cage accompanied by Kings of Leon - Closer. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wes Miles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Walter Hannedy!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hannedy manages to avoid it.
Miles throws an off balance right hand
and Hannedy makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Miles stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Miles wants it to stay on the feet.
Wes Miles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hannedy throws a poor cross that misses
and Hannedy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Miles looks to clinch

and Hannedy counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hannedy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miles looking for a sweep. Not yet Miles, not yet.
Hannedy works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Miles trying to get back to full guard but Hannedy takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Hannedy prevents Miles from getting the reversal.
Hannedy fails to take his opponent's back.
Miles keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Miles is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hannedy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Miles manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Hannedy tries to advance to mount but Miles denies him.
Hannedy wants to control but Miles is keeping him busy.
Miles is trying to control Hannedy's posture but Hannedy avoids it.

Hannedy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Miles, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hannedy trying to control the position but Miles is working away.
Hannedy throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Miles is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hannedy's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hannedy wants to control but Miles is keeping him busy.
Miles wants to control but Hannedy is keeping busy.
Miles slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hannedy looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hannedy is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Miles is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Miles has escaped and now he's on top!
Miles in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Miles trying to control the position from guard on top but Hannedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hannedy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Miles gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Miles engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Miles has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Hannedy to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Miles is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Hannedy pulls down on the head and he's put Miles to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Walter Hannedy!
