Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Gola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stephen Gola looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stephen Gola!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Burns!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns lands a really nice looking cross but Gola seems unphased.
Gola looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Burns shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Burns lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Stephen Gola has been cut.
Jonathan Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Burns feints and then cracks Gola's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gola down.
Burns tries for a takedown but Gola sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stephen Gola has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Burns.
Burns shoots in for a takedown but Gola shows good takedown defense.

Burns changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gola tries to avoid it but Burns manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gola to the ground. Gola escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Burns throws a series of punches but Gola avoids them all with ease.

Burns closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gola's guard.
Burns postures up in Gola's guard and throws a big left but Gola blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns trying to control but Gola is working from the bottom.
Burns has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Burns drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Burns jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Burns drops back looking for a leg! Gola is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gola manages to kick Burns off! Burns jumps back into Gola's guard.
Burns wants to control from the top but Gola keeps moving.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burns is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burns trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Burns's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Burns forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burns shoots for a double leg takedown but Gola sprawls well. He's pushed Burns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gola knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Burns is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gola is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Burns has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Gola is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Burns yanks on the arm and Gola is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Burns.
