Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Igor Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Langley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rick Langley!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Langley tries to bum rush Alves with a series of wild strikes but Alves uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Langley shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alves's guard.

Alves throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Langley has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Alves is proving hard to escape from.
Langley is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Langley looking to sit in guard and control but Alves gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Langley throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Langley is looking to stand up but Alves isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Alves clinches with his opponent.

Alves escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Langley wants to clinch

and Alves counters with a shoot takedown. Langley fights it but they end up in guard.

Langley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Alves trying to control the position from guard on top but Langley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Langley is keeping the position.
Langley can't keep his opponent in guard - Alves advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Langley tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Alves wants to work for an arm triangle but Langley is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Langley regains full guard. Nicely done.
Langley wants to stand up but Alves is controlling him.
Alves slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Langley wants to get back to his feet but Alves drags him back down.
Alves has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Langley!

Alves is working for a guillotine from mount but Langley frees his head quite easily.

Langley bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Langley with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Langley throws a strike but Alves rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Alves drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alves jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Langley has his feet on Alves's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Langley looks to clinch

so Alves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Langley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves passes Langley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Langley is trying to stand back up but Alves is controlling him
Langley gets back to full guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A cross from Alves lands.

Langley darts in trying to clinch
and Alves counters with a two punch combo.

Langley fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Alves counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Langley's guard now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Langley wants to get back to his feet but Alves is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Langley is keeping the position.

Alves would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Langley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alves is controlling him.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Langley not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Langley paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Langley moves into the clinch successfully.
Langley throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Alves blocks it with crossed arms.
Langley unloads a knee to the mid-section. Alves lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Alves is trying to stall.

Langley manages to break the clinch.

Langley clinches but Alves breaks the clinch

and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Langley won't be happy with that.
Langley tries to bench press Alves off him but Alves keeps the position.
Alves tries to move to mount but Langley blocks the move with his legs.
Langley pushes Alves away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Alves gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Langley keeps working.
Langley is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Alves has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Langley should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Alves is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Langley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alves.

Alves is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Langley has managed to free his arm - good work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Langley is on top in guard.

Alves is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Alves had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Langley is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Alves Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Langley's back instead.

Alves patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Langley is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Langley rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

and Alves counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Alves.
Langley throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Alves prevents Langley from getting back to his feet.
Alves won't allow Langley to sweep him here.

Langley is looking to stand up but Alves isn't so interested in that idea.

and Alves counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Langley with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Rick Langley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alves gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Alves lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Rick Langley has been cut.
Langley with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Alves drags the fight down to the ground.
Langley wants to get up but he can't break Alves's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Langley postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Alves looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Alves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Langley is one step ahead there.
Langley postures up and lands a big shot to Alves's brow.

Langley is trying to land a reversal but Alves doesn't like that idea too much. He pushed the legs to the side and dives into side control. He's managed to grab a loose arm triangle. Alves is tightening it up though! This could be trouble for Langley! Langley trying desperately to escape but he's gone limp! He's out! Wooooorld class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Alves!
