PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Movado Kenshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Movado Kenshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kenshi gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Johnson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Johnson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kenshi is breathing heavily.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Kenshi is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Johnson wants to control but Kenshi is keeping him busy.
Kenshi tries to buck Johnson off but Johnson is having none of it.
Kenshi is not content to let Johnson control the position.

Johnson is trying to get an arm triangle but Kenshi is defending well.

Johnson tries to advance to mount but Kenshi denies him.
Kenshi manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Johnson tries to kick Kenshi off but Kenshi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kenshi connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.

Johnson pushes Kenshi off and gets back to his feet.
Kenshi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kenshi was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Johnson prevents Kenshi from getting back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kenshi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Johnson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Anthony Johnson wasn't active enough on the ground.
Johnson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kenshi circles away.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Johnson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Johnson fails with the takedown

so Kenshi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kenshi scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kenshi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kenshi forces his way into half guard.
Johnson tries to kick Kenshi off but Kenshi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kenshi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kenshi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Johnson!
Johnson is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nice jab there from Johnson.
Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Anthony Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson is looking to stand but Johnson has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Kenshi is desperately trying to improve his position but Johnson has a good base and remains in mount.
Johnson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kenshi is looking to escape.
Kenshi wants to try and get back to his feet.
Kenshi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kenshi tries to get out of the position.
Kenshi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Johnson wants to control the action but instead Kenshi gets a body lock and reverses into Johnson's guard! Nice work!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Kenshi isn't so interested in that idea.
Kenshi wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.
Kenshi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kenshi thows a big elbow that misses.
Kenshi postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it.
Kenshi won't allow Johnson to get back to his feet.

Kenshi lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kenshi pushing down on Johnson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Kenshi is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kenshi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Johnson is not content to let Kenshi control the position.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.

Kenshi seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Johnson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kenshi.

Kenshi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kenshi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kenshi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Kenshi working for a submission but Johnson is keeping him at bay.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Kenshi closes the distance and pushes Johnson back into the cage.
Kenshi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Johnson tries to stall but Kenshi uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Johnson misses with a short punch on the inside.
Johnson wants to get back to striking at distance but Kenshi won't allow it.
Johnson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Kenshi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Johnson's efforts to push away.
Johnson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kenshi is defending well for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kenshi blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Kenshi gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Kenshi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Johnson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson tries to kick Kenshi off but Kenshi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson is staying active underneath Kenshi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kenshi wants to pass the guard but Johnson is defending well.
Kenshi prevents Johnson from standing back up.
Kenshi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kenshi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kenshi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kenshi has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kenshi looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Kenshi breaks from Johnson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Kenshi unloads with some shots from mount but Johnson bucks and avoids them well.
Kenshi looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kenshi scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Kenshi looking to ground and pound but Johnson is blocking nicely.
Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Kenshi's attempts to control the action.
Kenshi postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Johnson looks a forlorn figure.

Johnson is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Kenshi with shots to the head and body - Johnson looks very uncomfortable down there.
Movado Kenshi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kenshi working for a guillotine from mount but Johnson is in no mood to give up.
Kenshi misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

And that's the end of the fight!
Movado Kenshi showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
