PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pete Quinn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anselmi Samara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quinn's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Blood of Cuchulainn. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Pete Quinn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anselmi Samara!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samara missing with a left hand there. Quinn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Quinn throws an off balance right hand
and Samara connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Quinn misses with a wild combination.
Quinn swinging wildly here.
Samara misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Samara takes one to the side of the head.


It looks like Anselmi Samara has been cut.
Quinn throws a good cross that connects.

Samara throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Quinn tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Samara is in Quinn's guard.
Quinn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Quinn throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Samara wants to pass the guard but Quinn is keeping the position.
Samara passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Samara wants to control but Quinn is keeping him busy.
Quinn manages to get back to half guard.
Quinn is not content to let Samara control the position.
Samara trying to mount his opponent but Quinn defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Samara wants to work for an arm triangle but Quinn is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Samara wants to take a breather but Quinn is having none of it.
Quinn is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Samara trying to control from half guard but Quinn is working away.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Quinn manages to get to full guard.
Samara pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Quinn is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quinn is trying to keep Samara in close.
Quinn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Quinn wants to stand but Samara is controlling the position.
Quinn keeping moving, preventing Samara from controlling successfully.
Quinn is controlling Samara's posture.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Samara dodges the punch combination from Quinn.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Quinn scores with a nice head shot.
Quinn misses the jab.
Samara tries to clinch but Quinn is having none of it.
Samara lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Samara.


It looks like Pete Quinn has been cut.
Quinn lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Samara throws a right and a left that Quinn avoids nicely.
Samara moves in looking to clinch but Quinn pushes him off.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Samara throws a combination that misses
and Quinn counters with a nice uppercut.
Quinn feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Samaras jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Samara shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pete Quinn will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Quinn misses with a series of wild punches.
Quinn lands a head shot.
Samara lands with an uppercut that bounces Quinn off the cage and back into rage.
Samara throws a right hand that misses
and Quinn counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Samara throws a jab but it's blocked by Quinn.
Quinn keeps the fight on the outside.
Pete Quinn is winning the standup battle so far.
Quinn defending well as Samara loads up on a big left hand.
Quinn dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Quinn scores with a jab to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Samara throws a poor cross that misses
and Quinn counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Quinn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Samara moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Samara shoots in for a takedown but Quinn shows good takedown defense.
No joy there for Quinn, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pete Quinn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Samara is breathing heavily.
Samara walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Quinn lands a right hook to the body.
Quinn thuds a left hand into Samara's body.
Quinn is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Quinn slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Quinn lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Quinn.
Samara shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.


Samara is rocked!
Quinn is stalking Samara. Samara circles to his left. Keeps circling left. Bam! Straight right from Quinn, and it's lights out! Samara really payed the price for that rookie mistake.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Pete Quinn!
