Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vasily Kharlamov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlo McCloughan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kharlamov comes to the cage accompanied by Russian National Anthem. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vasily Kharlamov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlo McCloughan!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kharlamov tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and McCloughan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kharlamov's guard now.
McCloughan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kharlamov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kharlamov is trying to control the position from the bottom.

McCloughan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McCloughan postures up and lands a big shot to Kharlamov's brow.
McCloughan is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
McCloughan throws a big right hand that misses.

Kharlamov manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
McCloughan wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
McCloughan is keeping busy.
Kharlamov throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
McCloughan rolls, trying to escape but Kharlamov keeps control of the position.

McCloughan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kharlamov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McCloughan is squirming around, avoiding Kharlamov's attempts to control the action.

McCloughan just holding on.
Kharlamov prevents McCloughan from getting the reversal.
Kharlamov sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCloughan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
McCloughan tries to hold on but Kharlamov postures up.
Kharlamov prevents McCloughan from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McCloughan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McCloughan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
McCloughan is in close to Kharlamov's body, working some short punches and elbows.

McCloughan stands and steps away. Kharlamov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

McCloughan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kharlamov on his heels. He'll look to pass Kharlamov's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McCloughan tries a low kick but Kharlamov avoids it.
Nice defenses there by Kharlamov.
McCloughan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and McCloughan counters with a single leg into guard. Kharlamov didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCloughan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McCloughan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kharlamov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McCloughan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kharlamov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McCloughan has managed to get both his arms back between Kharlamov's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McCloughan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells McCloughan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
McCloughan controls from within his opponent's guard.
Kharlamov wants to stand up but McCloughan is controlling him.
McCloughan thows a big elbow that misses.
McCloughan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
McCloughan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McCloughan wants to pass the guard but Kharlamov is keeping the position.
McCloughan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
McCloughan is pushing down on Kharlamov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kharlamov is fighting to maintain full guard but McCloughan has managed to sneak the leg through.
McCloughan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kharlamov manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
McCloughan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kharlamov's head.

McCloughan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kharlamov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kharlamov throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
McCloughan stays in close to Kharlamov's body and controls the position.
Kharlamov is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kharlamov is looking to sweep but instead, McCloughan has passed into half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kharlamov has hold of McCloughan's hands but McCloughan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
McCloughan is controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlo McCloughan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Kharlamov doesn't succeed with the takedown

and McCloughan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McCloughan in particular looking to stall.

McCloughan throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
McCloughan winds up and cracks Kharlamov with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
McCloughan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kharlamov tries to roll over but McCloughan keeps him under control.

McCloughan lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
McCloughan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

McCloughan scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

McCloughan creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
McCloughan is staying tight to Kharlamov's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kharlamov is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McCloughan is controlling him well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
McCloughan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kharlamov down.
McCloughan cracks Kharlamov with a big elbow.
McCloughan slows the pace down.
Kharlamov can't do much from the bottom here.
McCloughan lands a nice forearm strike.
Carlo McCloughan has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McCloughan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
McCloughan lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kharlamov down.
Kharlamov is trying to buck McCloughan off.

You can see the frustration on Kharlamov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Carlo McCloughan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McCloughan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
