Pep comes to the cage accompanied by Spandau Ballet - Gold. Willie Pep could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Gerald Young I's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Gerald Young I!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Young I throws a left and a right that both miss

and Pep counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Young I's guard now.
Young I keeping moving, preventing Pep from controlling successfully.
Pep wants to pass the guard but Young I is keeping the position.
Young I really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pep. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Young I is looking to stand up but Pep isn't so interested in that idea.

Pep is stalling in the full guard.

Willie Pep has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

and Pep counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Pep trying to control the position from guard on top but Young I is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Young I wants to stand and escape but Pep is having none of it.

Pep stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Young I swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Young I counters with a body kick that stops Pep in his tracks momentarily.

and Pep counters with a takedown into side control.
Young I wants to get back to his feet but Pep drags him back down.
Pep wants to lay and pray for a moment but Young I keeps working.
Young I is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pep is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Young I knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Pep wants to control but Young I is keeping him busy.

Pep is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Young I is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pep wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Young I, who protects the arm well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Young I throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Pep counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Pep just misses with a punch to the body.

and Pep cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Young I throws a left and a right that both miss
and Pep counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gerald Young I is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pep shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Young I counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Young I throws a series of strikes that have Pep backpedaling.
Young I thows a body shot but no joy.

Pep displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Young I throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Young I looks to score with a jab to the body but Pep is just out of range.

and Pep counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Young I avoids the body shot from Pep.
Gerald Young I is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Pep gets a takedown into half guard.
Pep stops Young I from getting back to his feet.

Pep wants to pass to mount but Young I is defending the position.
Pep uses his free foot to push down on Young I's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Young I.

Pep jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Young I manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Young I is not content to let Pep control the position.

Pep tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pep has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ground and pound from Pep seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Young I is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Pep has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Pep tries to score with some ground and pound. Young I controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Pep trying to control the position but Young I is working away.
Young I is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Pep wants to lay and pray for a moment but Young I keeps working.
Pep tries to advance to mount but can't.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
