PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack Ryder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Longwe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Longwe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Solo. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Ryder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, BJ Longwe!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Longwe moves into the clinch.
Ryder tries to score a body lock takedown but Longwe shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Ryder is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Longwe gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Longwe prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Ryder. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ryder tries to score a body lock takedown but Longwe shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Longwe wants the takedown. Ryder is fighting it off but Longwe persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ryder's guard against the cage.
Ryder utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Longwe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ryder is proving hard to escape from.
Longwe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ryder is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Longwe dives into side control.

Longwe is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ryder knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Longwe trying to control the position but Ryder is working away.
Ryder is breathing heavily.
Longwe laying and praying for a moment but Ryder takes advantage and regains half guard.
Longwe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ryder does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Longwe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Longwe lands a nice short elbow.
Longwe throwing shots but Ryder is blocking nicely.

Longwe decides to stand and escape the position.

Longwe shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ryder's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Longwe loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Ryder keeping moving, preventing Longwe from controlling successfully.
Ryder wants to get back to his feet but Longwe passes into half guard.
Longwe lands strikes from half guard.
Longwe works his way into side control.
Longwe scoring with punches from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Longwe dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ryder tries to sprawl but Longwe drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ryder is trying to stand up here but Longwe is controlling him well.
Longwe is keen to just control but Ryder is a slippery customer.
Longwe landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Longwe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Longwe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ryder defending well though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Longwe wants to take a breather but Ryder is having none of it.
Longwe is looking to stall here but Ryder recovers full guard.

Longwe stands and steps away. Ryder gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryder enables Longwe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryder manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Longwe thows a big elbow that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Longwe wants to pass the guard but Ryder is keeping the position.
Longwe wants to control from the top but Ryder keeps moving.
Ryder being controlled here, momentarily.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. BJ Longwe was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ryder misses with a right hand

and Longwe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Longwe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ryder really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Longwe trying to control from half guard but Ryder is working away.
Longwe throwing shots but Ryder is blocking nicely.
Ryder avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Longwe.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Longwe wants to control but Ryder is keeping him busy.

Ryder makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Ryder misses with a left hand

and Longwe counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Longwe not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Longwe wants to get back to his feet.
Ryder is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Longwe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Ryder throws a lazy uppercut

and Longwe moves into the clinch.

Longwe has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Ryder is trying to keep an underhook but Longwe manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Longwe stops Ryder from getting back to his feet.
Longwe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Longwe trying to control from half guard but Ryder is working away.

Longwe is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ryder doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Longwe.
Ryder blocking the ground and pound attempt from Longwe.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Longwe is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Longwe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ryder keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Longwe stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Ryder paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Longwe fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ryder misses with a left hand
and Longwe counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Ryder is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Ryder gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Longwe looking to pass the guard.
Longwe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ryder works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ryder can't keep his opponent in guard - Longwe advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Longwe passes the guard and advances to mount!
Longwe misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ryder avoids a series of strikes thrown by Longwe.

And that's the end of the fight!
BJ Longwe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Longwe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
