PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chew Bacca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruron Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bacca's entrance music is HOT. A fine choice. Gracie has chosen Warning as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chew Bacca!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ruron Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bacca misses with a double jab.

Bacca closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gracie gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Gracie is doing well to control the position and prevent Bacca from advancing to side control.
Bacca trying to control the pace.
Gracie is looking to improve his position.
Gracie is concentrating on defense, preventing Bacca from advancing position.
Bacca tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gracie.
Gracie gets full guard.
Gracie trying to keep a closed guard but Bacca is proving a slippery customer.

Bacca looking to pass the guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Bacca sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bacca shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gracie's guard.
Gracie has control of Bacca's left arm, preventing Bacca from doing any damage.
Bacca trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bacca tries to stand but Gracie is controlling from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ruron Gracie.
Bacca is looking to chop away at Gracie's legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Gracie fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
No joy there for Bacca, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Bacca which made him look bad.
Chew Bacca has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ruron Gracie.

Bacca drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bacca is breathing heavily.

Gracie has his foot on Bacca's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bacca works his way back into a safe position though.

Gracie scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Bacca changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gracie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bacca wants to take a breather but Gracie manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Bacca.
Bacca wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Bacca scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bacca postures up.
Gracie seems keen to control Bacca's posture.
Gracie trying to control the position.
Bacca wants to get up but he can't break Gracie's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bacca trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.

Gracie kicks Bacca off and gets to his feet.
Gracie tries to clinch up
and Bacca counters with a nice body shot.
Gracie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bacca pinned against the cage. Bacca gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bacca circles away from the clinch attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.
Ruron Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Bacca manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bacca throws a left and a right that both miss

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Bacca won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bacca can't do much from the bottom here.
Bacca stops Gracie from passing to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chew Bacca dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Bacca decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gracie is trying to keep Bacca in close.

Bacca avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Bacca wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position.
Bacca trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bacca doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bacca manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bacca would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gracie looking to control.
Bacca trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Bacca tries to stand but Gracie is controlling from the bottom.
Bacca trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

We're going to have a standup here because Chew Bacca wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Gracie moves in looking to clinch but Bacca pushes him off.
Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but Bacca manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bacca finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
A big right from Bacca misses.
Bacca scores with a jab to the head.
Gracie chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bacca can pounce on him.
Gracie tries to clinch but Bacca moves out of range.
Bacca connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gracie. Gracie circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Bacca misses with a wild body shot.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Bacca.
Gracie fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gracie doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Bacca counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bacca trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.
Gracie pulls Bacca in close to his closed guard and prevents Bacca from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Bacca has his hands clasped together but Gracie extends an breaks Bacca's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Gracie.
