PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Manfred Mann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul State (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). State comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Welcome kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mann misses with a leg kick.
State misses with the body kick
and Mann counters with an inside leg kick.
A nice inside leg kick there by Mann. That's going to slow State down.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

State really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mann. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mann looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Mann decides to stand up.
State throws a head kick that misses

and Mann counters with a nice double leg into side control. State won't be happy with that.

State trying to remain calm as Mann controls from the top position.
State tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Mann easily slips into full mount!
Mann takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Mann stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mann bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Mann stands up and beckons State to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from State enables Mann to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. State manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mann is pushing down on State's leg trying to pass to half guard. State is fighting to maintain full guard but Mann has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mann cracks State with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

State takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mann cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Manfred Mann overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
State seems a little lost for a moment, as Mann dominates the positioning.
Mann is putting a hurting on State here, landing some big shots from side control.

Mann shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has State pinned against the cage. State gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

State takes the fight into the clinch.

Mann escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mann is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that State can do to turn this around?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mann kicks State off and gets back to his feet.
Mann throws a push kick but State slaps the foot to one side.
State stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and State wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Manfred Mann. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mann gets tackled into the cage by State. State maintains the clinch.
State lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
State drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mann has State pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mann pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending State tumbling to the mat - Mann dives into State's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mann drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Mann as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! State screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Mann! Nice submission victory there!
