The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Sousa gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Laaksonen counters with a nice uppercut.

and De Sousa counters with a right hand to the body.

and Laaksonen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
De Sousa on the wrong end of a nice hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from De Sousa. Laaksonen does a little dance to reset his feet.
De Sousa swings for the body but Laaksonen moves out of range.

Laaksonen throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck De Sousa on the side of the head.

De Sousa tries to advance to mount but can't.

De Sousa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Laaksonen, who protects the arm well.

De Sousa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Laaksonen manages to work his way to half guard, despite De Sousa's best efforts.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Laaksonen is pressing down on De Sousa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
De Sousa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Laaksonen's guard.

De Sousa throws and elbow that misses. Laaksonen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in De Sousa's guard. Nice move by Laaksonen!

De Sousa throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Laaksonen escapes and throws De Sousa's legs to the side, diving into side control!
De Sousa is breathing heavily.
De Sousa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Laaksonen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close round but Antti Laaksonen will probably get the nod.
