PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takumi Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Takumi Sato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Davis!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Davis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sato!

Davis working for a submission but Sato is keeping him at bay.
Sato is bucking up trying to escape but Davis cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Davis with shots to the head and body - Sato looks very uncomfortable down there.
Sato is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Davis controlling his opponent.
Sato knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.

Sato wants to try and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Davis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Phil Davis has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Davis ducks under a wild hook from Sato.

Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sato's guard.
Davis lands a couple of elbows.
Davis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis advances position into side control!
Davis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Phil Davis was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Sato thows a left - swing and a miss!

Davis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Davis showed some decent athleticism there.
Sato blocking the ground and pound attempt from Davis.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Davis dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Davis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sato sprawls well initially but Davis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sato tries to kick Davis off in order to stand up. Davis Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Davis has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Sato!
Davis controlling the pace for now.
Davis lands a nice shot to the head.
Davis lands a big shot there that rocks Sato but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Davis controlling from mount.
Sato is in a horrible position here. Davis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Davis raining down hammerfists from mount.
Davis with shots to the head and body - Sato looks very uncomfortable down there.
Davis connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Sato is in a horrible position here. Davis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Davis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Davis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.

Davis working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Sato looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Davis! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Phil Davis!
