PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hal Vo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mikey Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hal Vo!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vo changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Vo tries to clinch up
letting Schultz counter with a right hand.

Vo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Schultz sprawls well initially but Vo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schultz blocking the ground and pound attempt from Vo.
Schultz keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Vo thows a huge punch but Schultz dodges it nicely.
Schultz controlling the position for now.
Schultz on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Schultz tries to get out of the position.
Vo is thwarting Schultz's attempts to control the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Schultz is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mikey Schultz wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Schultz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Vo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Schultz's guard.
Schultz manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Vo tries to lock up and control but Schultz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Schultz moves to take his opponent's back.
Schultz controls the position.
I really don't envy Vo right now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vo trying to control the action but Schultz just sinks the hooks in.
What can Vo do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Vo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schultz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We're going to have a standup here because Mikey Schultz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Vo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Schultz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vo looks gassed!
Schultz passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Schultz decides to stand up, so the ref orders Vo to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Schultz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Schultz passes Vo's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Schultz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Schultz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikey Schultz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Schultz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Vo trying to get back to full guard but Schultz takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Vo is breathing heavily.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

We're going to have a standup here because Mikey Schultz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Vo tries for a takedown but Schultz circles away easily

and Schultz counters with a single leg into guard. Vo didn't expect that.
Schultz pushes down on Vo's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Well, if Schultz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Schultz moves nicely into side control.
Schultz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vo's shoulder. That is not cool.
Vo gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Schultz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Schultz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Schultz quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Schultz but it's paid off an Vo is forced to tap! Nice work by Schultz.
