The crowd seem to be enjoying Howell's choice of entrance music: Machine Spiritual . Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howell stuffs the takedown.
Cardigan defending well as Howell loads up on a big left hand.
Howell misses with a body shot.
Howell works over Cardigan's head and body with a nice combination.
Cardigan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nice defenses there by Cardigan.
Howell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cardigan was well out of range. Poor timing from Howell.
Cardigan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Howell swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Howell falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cardigan counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Cardigan drives through with a takedown into Howell's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Cardigan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Cardigan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Howell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cardigan controls the pace.

Cardigan has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Howell defend it? Cardigan steps over the head and cranks it - Howell is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cardigan!
