PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Dirrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Dirrell's choice of entrance music: Shinedown - Diamond Eyes. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dirrell throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Jones counter with a right hand.
Dirrell throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Dirrell tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dirrell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A head kick misses from Dirrell.

Jones digs a right hand underneath Dirrell's ribcage. Dirrell let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Dirrell has gone for a leg lock! Jones slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dirrell's guard.
Dirrell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jones makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Dirrell forces Jones back against the cage and clinches.
Dirrell wants to get back to striking at distance but Jones won't allow it.

Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dirrell's waist but Dirrell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.

Jones shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dirrell's guard.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dirrell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dirrell sprawls well. Dirrell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones throws a right hand that Dirrell ducks under and follows up with a left that Dirrell also avoids with ease.

Dirrell does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jermaine Jones will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Dirrell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.

Dirrell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Dirrell circles away.

and Jones counters by moving into the clinch.

Dirrell is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Horrible takedown by Dirrell or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.
