PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Peter Dixon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Peter Dixon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Bravo!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bravo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dixon.
Bravo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dixon moves away.
Bravo with a poor takedown
and Dixon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bravo misses with a left hand
and Dixon counters with a nice uppercut.

Bravo shoots in and gets a takedown into Dixon's guard.
Bravo is looking to work some ground and pound but Dixon has wrist control.
Dixon wants to stand but Bravo is controlling the position.

Dixon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bravo sitting in guard here, content to control.

Bravo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dixon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bravo has managed to get both his arms back between Dixon's legs - danger averted.
Bravo postures up in Dixon's guard and throws a big left but Dixon blocks it.
Bravo is working Dixon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Bravo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bravo looking to sit in guard and control but Dixon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Dixon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bravo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dixon is aware though and is defending well.
Dixon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Dixon sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bravo trying to control the position.

Bravo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Bravo working for a triangle but Dixon defends it easily.

Dixon drops back looking for a leg! Bravo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bravo manages to kick Dixon off! Dixon jumps back into Bravo's guard.

Bravo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dixon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dixon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dixon drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Bravo dives on top into guard.
Bravo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dixon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Bravo stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Bravo rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Dixon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bravo throws a sloppy head kick
and Dixon counters with a stiff right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bravo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bravo throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Dixon on the side of the head.
Dixon looks to land a combination but Bravo avoids it well.
Dixon bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bravo's head.
Dixon looks to land a left hand but Bravo moved out of range nicely.
Bravo blocks a head kick by Dixon.
Dixon lands with a hook. Bravo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Dixon clinches up with Bravo and pushes him back against the cage.
Dixon is trying to force a seperation but Bravo has the dominant position.
Bravo wants to break free but Dixon has control.
Dixon wants to get back to striking at distance but Bravo won't allow it.

Dixon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bravo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Dixon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Richard Bravo will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dixon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dixon wants it to stay on the feet.
Dixon darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Bravo tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Dixon counters by moving into the clinch.

Dixon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nice uppercut there from Dixon.
Dixon stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A nice combination there by Dixon.


It looks like Richard Bravo has been cut.
No luck for Dixon with that takedown attempt.
Dixon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bravo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dixon gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Dixon takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dixon moves out of range of the strikes.
Richard Bravo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dixon uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Dixon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Bravo throws an off balance right hand

and Dixon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dixon.
Dixon is looking to break free of the clinch but Bravo has double underhooks.
Bravo prevents a takedown attempt there.

Dixon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bravo lands a nice shot that snaps Dixon's head back.
Dixon ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Bravo has Dixon up against the cage in a clinch.

Dixon throws a head kick that misses.
Bravo swings widly with a right hand

and Dixon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dixon.

Dixon wants to stand but Bravo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Bravo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dixon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dixon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bravo wants to sweep but no luck.

Bravo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dixon defends it easily.
Bravo trying to keep a closed guard but Dixon is proving a slippery customer.

Bravo has his foot on Dixon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dixon works his way back into a safe position though.

Dixon stands and steps away. Bravo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bravo pivots, looking for a leg kick but Dixon is out of range and Bravo settles back down.
Bravo misses with an uppercut
and Dixon counters with a flying knee. Nice.
A head kick by Bravo misses

and Dixon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bravo's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bravo working for a triangle but Dixon defends it easily.
Bravo keeping moving, preventing Dixon from controlling successfully.

Dixon drops back looking for a leg! Bravo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bravo manages to kick Dixon off! Dixon jumps back into Bravo's guard.

Bravo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dixon to score with a decent uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bravo swings away with a body shot that misses
and Dixon counters with a series of strikes. Bravo will be more careful next time no doubt.
Dixon lands a nice shot that snaps Bravo's head back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bravo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Dixon counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Bravo is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Dixon swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bravo.
Dixon swats away the attempt to clinch by Bravo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Dixon dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Richard Bravo's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Bravo looks to land a combination but Dixon avoids it well.
Dixon circles away from the clinch attempt
and Dixon counters with a slapping leg kick.
Dixon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Bravo clinches.

Dixon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bravo doesn't manage to clinch there - Dixon circles away.
Bravo plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

and Dixon counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Dixon postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Bravo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dixon, into his guard.
Bravo looking to sit in guard and control but Dixon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Dixon has gone for a leg lock! Bravo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dixon's guard.
Bravo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Bravo gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bravo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Bravo tries to clinch
and Dixon counters with a straight right hand.
Bravo tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Dixon decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bravo's guard.
Dixon wants to stand but Bravo is controlling his posture from full guard.

Bravo working for a triangle but Dixon defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bravo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dixon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bravo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bravo working the head and body with strikes.
Dixon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dixon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dixon.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dixon wants to get back to his feet but Bravo passes into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Bravo wants to work for an arm triangle but Dixon is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Dixon looks like he's trying to stand up.
Bravo wants to take a breather but Dixon is having none of it.

Dixon kicks Bravo off and gets back to his feet.

Bravo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dixon to the mat! Dixon manages to get full guard.

Dixon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bravo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bravo chips away with some ground and pound.
Bravo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dixon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bravo is looking to work some ground and pound but Dixon has wrist control.
Bravo throwing strikes but missing.
Bravo content to stall in guard here.
Bravo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bravo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bravo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bravo is working Dixon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bravo postures up and lands a big shot to Dixon's brow.
Peter Dixon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter Dixon.
Well Dixon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
