PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thomas O Leary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kealan Lafferty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lafferty has chosen Blind Faith as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lafferty drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lafferty is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
O Leary preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
O Leary trying to keep a closed guard but Lafferty is proving a slippery customer.
O Leary pulls Lafferty in close to his closed guard and prevents Lafferty from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lafferty missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Lafferty trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lafferty throwing strikes from guard but O Leary blocks nicely.
Lafferty trying to control but O Leary is working from the bottom.

Lafferty is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
O Leary on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if O Leary tries to get out of the position.

O Leary working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lafferty.
Lafferty throwing strikes but missing.
O Leary wants to sweep but no luck.
Lafferty has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

O Leary wants to stand and escape but Lafferty is having none of it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lafferty connects with a couple of short punches.
Lafferty wants to control from the top but O Leary keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
O Leary preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lafferty loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Lafferty scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lafferty is pushing down on O Leary's leg trying to pass to half guard. O Leary is fighting to maintain full guard but Lafferty has managed to sneak the leg through.

Lafferty thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed O Leary's head.
Lafferty throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

O Leary tries to roll over but Lafferty keeps him under control.

Lafferty passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for O Leary!
O Leary knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lafferty on the ground.

O Leary is squirming around, avoiding Lafferty's attempts to control the action.
O Leary might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

O Leary wants to hold on but Lafferty pushes him away.
O Leary is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
