PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Barker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Vaughn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barker comes to the cage accompanied by Remember The Name By Fort Minor. Vaughn is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Wild Thing. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Barker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Vaughn!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Russell Pearce and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vaughn looks to land a right hand but Barker moved out of range.
Vaughn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Barker cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Vaughn misses with a left hand
and Barker counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Vaughn scores with a decent looking hook.
Barker walks into a left hand.
Vaughn throws a shot from downtown. Barker moves away and avoids it.
Barker throws a lazy uppercut
and Vaughn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Barker misses with a hook
and Vaughn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Barker tries for a takedown but Vaughn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vaughn tries to bum rush Barker with a series of wild strikes but Barker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Vaughn lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Barker backs up against the cage.

Vaughn misses with a right hand
and Vaughn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A punch combination from Vaughn misses.
Vaughn takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Barker throws a low kick but Vaughn avoids it.
Barker scores with a body shot.
Vaughn misses with a hook
and Barker counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Vaughn throws a lazy uppercut
and Barker counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Vaughn misses with a looping left.

Vaughn rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Barker counters with a good low kick that Vaughn was not able to check.
Vaughn throws a right and a left that Barker avoids nicely.
Barker misses with a wild body shot.
Vaughn loads up on a big right hand but Barker slips the punch.
Barker throws a sloppy body shot
and Vaughn counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A punch combination from Vaughn misses.
Barker uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Vaughn misses with an uppercut

and Barker counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Barker.

Barker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Barker engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Barker drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Barker jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Barker works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still in half guard, Barker seems content to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vaughn is refusing to be controlled, as Barker sits in half guard.
Barker moves nicely into side control.
Barker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vaughn keeps working.
Barker happy to just control the position for now.
An elbow from Barker crashes against the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Barker dominated that round.

Vaughn throws a series of punches but Barker moves out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barker throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Vaughn throws a lazy right hand but Barker sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Vaughn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Vaughn counters with a left to the body.
Vaughn might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Vaughn throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Barker counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Vaughn missing with a left hand there. Barker was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Barker lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Barker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Barker throws a leg kick but Vaughn moved away.
Barker throws a poor cross that misses
and Vaughn counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Barker tries for a takedown but Vaughn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Vaughn moves forwards but Barker connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Vaughn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Barker.

Vaughn throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Rick Vaughn seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vaughn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barker.
Barker fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Vaughn throws a sloppy body shot
and Barker counters with a nice body shot.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Barker counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Vaughn thinking.

Barker lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Vaughn lands with an overhand left.
Vaughn throws a right and a left that Barker avoids nicely.
Barker avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and Vaughn counters with a two punch combo.
Vaughn throws a lazy uppercut
and Barker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Vaughn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Vaughn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice uppercut lands for Barker. That snapped Vaughn's head back.
Barker throws the left hand but Vaughn avoids the punch easily.
Vaughn looks to score with a jab to the body but Barker is just out of range.
Barker misses with a left hand
and Vaughn counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Barker cracks Vaughn with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Barker shoots in and gets a takedown into Vaughn's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vaughn can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barker postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Barker thows a big elbow that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barker throws and elbow that misses. Vaughn uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barker's guard. Nice move by Vaughn!
Barker keeping moving, preventing Vaughn from controlling successfully.
Barker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vaughn manages to get himself to full guard.
Vaughn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Barker wants to control from the top but Vaughn keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Vaughn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vaughn is wriggling around but Barker manages to pass to half guard.
Barker wants to take a breather but Vaughn is having none of it.
Barker working over Vaughn with some ground and pound. Vaughn looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Barker working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Vaughn's thigh. Vaughn counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Barker tries to free his leg and advance position but Vaughn is retaining full guard.
Vaughn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Barker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barker preventing the sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vaughn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Vaughn on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Barker showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Barker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
