PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Azevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Azevedo has chosen I'm a Soldier, I'm a Fighter as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Sam Anderson has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hugo Azevedo!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good work by Azevedo as he checks the leg kick.
Sam Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Azevedo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Azevedo throws a poor cross that misses
and Anderson counters with a thumping low kick.
Anderson looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Anderson fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Anderson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Azevedo throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Anderson counters with a nice low kick that buckles Azevedo's knee momentarily.
Anderson throws a lazy right hand but Azevedo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Azevedo dips to his left and cracks Anderson with an uppercut!
Anderson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Azevedo is able to avoid easily.

and Azevedo counters with an inside leg kick.

Anderson tries to clinch but Azevedo is having none of it.
Sam Anderson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Anderson misses with a straight right.
Azevedo checks the leg kick nicely there.
Anderson does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Anderson stuffs the takedown attempt from Azevedo. Azevedo gets slowly back to his feet.
Anderson moves out of range of the leg kick from Azevedo.
Anderson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Azevedo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Anderson tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Anderson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Azevedo misses the body punch
and Anderson counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Azevedo fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Anderson checks it well.

Anderson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Azevedo defends it easily.

Anderson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Anderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Azevedo on the ground.

Azevedo is looking for a kimura but Anderson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Azevedo to get the leverage.

Anderson wants to control but Azevedo is keeping busy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Anderson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Anderson looking for a sweep. Not yet Anderson, not yet.
Azevedo postures up.
Azevedo trying to control but Anderson is working from the bottom.
Azevedo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Anderson is keeping the position for now.
Anderson tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Sam Anderson just wasn't active enough.

and Azevedo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Anderson won't be happy with that.

Azevedo is looking to take a break and control but Anderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anderson is looking for a sweep. Azevedo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Anderson tries to kick Azevedo off but Azevedo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Azevedo content to control rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hugo Azevedo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Azevedo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
