PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Finny Gussa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sparky Jenkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jenkins has chosen I know you want me as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Finny Gussa!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Jenkins!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gussa enables Jenkins to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gussa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gussa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gussa tries to get out of the position.
Jenkins prevents Gussa from getting back to his feet.

Jenkins drops back looking for a leg! Gussa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gussa manages to kick Jenkins off! Jenkins jumps back into Gussa's guard.
Jenkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Gussa is retaining full guard.
Gussa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jenkins thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jenkins postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gussa is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jenkins, into his guard.
Jenkins utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jenkins is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gussa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gussa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jenkins working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gussa.
Gussa stops Jenkins from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jenkins pushes Gussa off and gets back to his feet.

Jenkins looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gussa!

Jenkins working for a guillotine from mount but Gussa is in no mood to give up.
Gussa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jenkins on the ground.

Jenkins is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Gussa has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Gussa!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gussa works over Jenkins with some ground and pound from guard.
Gussa working some strikes from top position.
Gussa is in close to Jenkins's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jenkins preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gussa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jenkins is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Jenkins turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jenkins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gussa, who protects the arm well.
Gussa is breathing heavily.
Jenkins tries to advance to mount but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jenkins tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Jenkins is working to tighten is grip on Gussa's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Gussa has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jenkins is really squeezing tight and eventually Gussa passes out! Jenkins breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Sparky Jenkins!
Sparky Jenkins is the new lightweight champion!
