Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Tretiak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vladimir Tretiak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Forrest Griffin!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin throws a lazy head kick
and Tretiak counters with a stiff right hand.
Tretiak lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Griffin throws a combination that misses
and Tretiak counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Tretiak shoots in for a takedown but Griffin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vladimir Tretiak seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Tretiak counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Griffin misses with a combination

so Tretiak counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Tretiak is looking to work some ground and pound but Griffin has wrist control.
Tretiak passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Griffin tries to bench press Tretiak off him but Tretiak keeps the position.
Griffin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tretiak. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tretiak cracks Griffin with an elbow. That is naaassty.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tretiak is looking to take a break and control but Griffin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Griffin defending against the ground and pound.
Tretiak looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Griffin is avoiding damage well.
Tretiak creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Griffin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Tretiak looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Tretiak working the head and body with strikes.
Tretiak trying to control the action but Griffin is working from the bottom.
Tretiak in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tretiak cracks Griffin with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Griffin parries the strikes from Tretiak easily there. Tretiak is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Griffin to escape.

Tretiak decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Griffin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Griffin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Tretiak moves away.
Tretiak cracks Griffin with a right hand to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tretiak jabs Griffin to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Tretiak bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Tretiak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griffin wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin looks gassed!
Griffin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
An elbow from Tretiak crashes against the mat.
Tretiak working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Tretiak wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working.

Tretiak thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Tretiak has hold of Griffin's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Griffin tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Tretiak cranks the arm and Griffin screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Griffin, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Vladimir Tretiak!
