Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Senhor Sotomonte! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Serr! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Serr tries to clinch but fails miserably and Sotomonte connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Serr closes the distance but Sotomonte moves to the side and Serr takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Dan Serr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Serr wants to clinch but Sotomonte slips to the side enabling Sotomonte to counter with a crisp jab. Serr's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Serr duly obliges. Sotomonte throws a combination that misses and Serr counters with a left and a right that stings Sotomonte. Serr doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sotomonte counters by moving into the clinch. Serr jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sotomonte walks away with a smile on his face. Serr gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Sotomonte tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Serr was well out of range. Poor timing from Sotomonte. Serr throws a head kick but Sotomonte moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Serr fails with the takedown and Sotomonte counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Serr's guard now. Senhor Sotomonte has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Serr. Sotomonte throwing strikes but missing. Sotomonte has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Serr working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sotomonte. Serr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Serr is controlling Sotomonte's posture. Sotomonte with a flurry of punches that miss. Sotomonte landing some decent shots from guard. Sotomonte is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Sotomonte is looking to work some ground and pound but Serr has wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Serr has momentary wrist control but Sotomonte slips an elbow through the middle. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Serr holds on and takes a little breather. Serr keeping moving, preventing Sotomonte from controlling successfully. Serr looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Sotomonte trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Serr can do anything to dispel that myth. Sotomonte postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Serr is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sotomonte, into his guard. Sotomonte trying to keep a closed guard but Serr is proving a slippery customer.
Serr wants to stand and escape but instead Sotomonte has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sotomonte postures up in Serr's guard and throws a big left but Serr blocks it. Sotomonte throwing strikes from guard but Serr blocks nicely. Sotomonte lands a couple of decent looking shots. Serr looks gassed! Sotomonte tries to free his leg and advance position but Serr is retaining full guard. Sotomonte postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sotomonte missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Sotomonte trying to control the position from guard on top but Serr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Serr managing to control the position. Sotomonte throwing strikes from guard but Serr blocks nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sotomonte stopping the sweep attempt from Serr. Sotomonte drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sotomonte jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Serr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sotomonte defends it easily. Serr isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sotomonte stacks Serr on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sotomonte! Sotomonte in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Sotomonte in side control lands a decent elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Senhor Sotomonte dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Sotomonte throws a head kick but Serr moves out of range.
Serr gets the takedown into side control. Serr trying to control the action but Sotomonte is working from the bottom. Sotomonte gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Sotomonte looking for submissions off his back. Sotomonte works his way to full guard. Good work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sotomonte manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Sotomonte lands a nice shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Serr is bucking up trying to escape but Sotomonte cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Serr is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Sotomonte is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Serr can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sotomonte has hold of Serr's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Serr manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sotomonte scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Serr?

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sotomonte jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Serr manages to avoid the submission attempt. Sotomonte lands an elbow. Sotomonte tries for a kimura but Serr is defending well. Serr wants to control but Sotomonte postures up. Serr tries to improve position but can't. Sotomonte is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Serr has escaped the position, nice work there. Sotomonte working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Serr is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sotomonte's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Sotomonte thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Sotomonte stops Serr from getting back to his feet.
Sotomonte is keen to just control but Serr is a slippery customer. Senhor Sotomonte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Sotomonte prevents Serr from improving his position. Serr has one foot on Sotomonte's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Serr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Serr fails with the takedown and Sotomonte counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sotomonte. Sotomonte slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Sotomonte working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Sotomonte wants to take a breather but Serr manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Sotomonte. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sotomonte is fighting to break Serr's control of his arms but Serr is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Senhor Sotomonte dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Serr has his takedown stuffed and Sotomonte counters with a nice double leg into guard. Sotomonte wants to pass the guard but Serr is keeping the position. Sotomonte thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Sotomonte postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Serr wants to sweep but no luck. Sotomonte working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sotomonte working some strikes from top position. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Sotomonte with a flurry of punches that miss. Sotomonte passes into half guard. Serr is trying to stand up here but Sotomonte is controlling him well.

Serr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sotomonte. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sotomonte wants to control but Serr is keeping him busy. Sotomonte thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Serr's head. Sotomonte is looking for a kimura here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sotomonte is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sotomonte is trying to control. Serr wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Sotomonte passes to full mount! Serr is desperately trying to improve his position but Sotomonte has a good base and remains in mount. Sotomonte goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Serr is on top in guard.
Sotomonte escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Serr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sotomonte lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Serr! Sotomonte has hold of Serr's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Serr manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Senhor Sotomonte is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Sotomonte works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Sotomonte throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Sotomonte tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Sotomonte wants to lay and pray for a moment but Serr keeps working.
And that's the end of the fight! Senhor Sotomonte showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sotomonte, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
