PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ingo Pavlik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vasgen Umarov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ingo Pavlik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vasgen Umarov!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Umarov is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pavlik.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pavlik enables Umarov to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pavlik manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Umarov postures up in Pavlik's guard and throws a big left but Pavlik blocks it.

Umarov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pavlik manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Umarov has Pavlik in his guard.
Pavlik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Umarov has his foot on Pavlik's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pavlik works his way back into a safe position though.

Pavlik trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Umarov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pavlik defends it easily.

Pavlik wants to stand but Umarov is controlling his posture from full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Ingo Pavlik wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

so Umarov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Umarov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pavlik manages to escape and get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pavlik is looking to clinch but Umarov is avoiding it.
Pavlik scores with a nice strike.


That has opened up Vasgen Umarov's cut even more.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close round but I would say that Ingo Pavlik will probably get the nod.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Umarov drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Umarov goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pavlik prevents it.

Pavlik lands with a left to the head.

Umarov has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Umarov there as he acknowledges the shot.

Vasgen Umarov's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Vasgen Umarov's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Ingo Pavlik!
