PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Handy Manny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes to the cage accompanied by Megadeth-Trust. Manny comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Knuckle UP kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Alex Ramirez has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Handy Manny!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manny connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ramirez. Ramirez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Ramirez rushes Manny and presses him up against the cage.
Manny wants to break the clinch but can't.
Manny prevents the takedown attempt.
Ramirez goes for a takedown attempt but Manny pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Handy Manny seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ramirez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Manny.
Ramirez ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Oooooh!!! Manny has knocked Ramirez down with a huge combo! Manny steps away and waves a wobbly Ramirez back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Alex Ramirez has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Manny falls off balance throwing a combination

and Ramirez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ramirez.
Oh Ramirez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Manny has control of Ramirez's left arm, preventing Ramirez from doing any damage.
Ramirez seems to have got his legs back now.
Ramirez prevents Manny from getting back to his feet.
Manny wants to sweep here but Ramirez controlling him for the moment.
Ramirez stays in close to Manny's body and controls the position.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ramirez is looking to work some ground and pound but Manny has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Manny gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ramirez to score an easy takedown into full guard.

and Ramirez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Manny is refusing to be controlled, as Ramirez sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ramirez seems to be working for a kimura but Manny defends the submission attempt.
Ramirez wants to control but Manny is keeping him busy.

Manny regains full guard. Nicely done.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Manny is on top in guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

and Ramirez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ramirez.
Ramirez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Manny's efforts to push away.
Ramirez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Manny avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Ramirez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ramirez has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Manny is trying to keep an underhook but Ramirez manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Ramirez is breathing heavily.

Ramirez wants to pass the guard but Manny is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ramirez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Manny manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ramirez has Manny in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manny swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Manny throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Ramirez counters with a head kick.

Check out the look on Ramirez's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Manny is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ramirez is controlling him well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ramirez in particular looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Ramirez wasn't doing enough on the ground.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Manny enables Ramirez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Manny manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Manny is pulling down on Ramirez's head. It's preventing any offense from Ramirez, at least for the moment.

Manny manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Manny is looking to take a break and control but Ramirez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ramirez wants to control but Manny is keeping busy.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Manny stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ramirez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Manny keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ramirez's head.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Ramirez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Manny did well to prevent Ramirez getting side control.

Ramirez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Manny looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Manny looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Manny!
Manny scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ramirez to see if he's OK.
Manny works to advance to full mount. Ramirez defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Ramirez holds on to Manny as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Poor strikes thrown by Manny there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Ramirez is trying to escape the mount.
Manny tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Manny can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ramirez is looking to escape.
Ramirez wants to try and get back to his feet.
Manny misses with some ground and pound and Ramirez recovers position to half guard.
Alex Ramirez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Manny takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Manny gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Ramirez counters with a shoot takedown. Manny fights it but they end up in guard.

Manny is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ramirez is controlling him.
Ramirez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Ramirez postures up in Manny's guard and throws a big left but Manny blocks it.

Manny wants to stand up but Ramirez is controlling him.
Ramirez is in close to Manny's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A left and a right from Manny both land. Nice combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Ramirez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Ramirez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
