PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Sela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Hester (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sela comes to the cage accompanied by Black Attack - Heartless. Hester has chosen George Clinton-Atomic Dog as his entrance music. Fernando Sela had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fernando Sela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dave Hester!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hester fails with the takedown
and Hester takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Sela feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sela works over Hester with some ground and pound from guard.

Sela is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hester lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Sela shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sela content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

and Sela counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hester!
Hester is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Sela is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hester is surviving well by controlling Sela's body position as best he can.

Hester's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sela tries to control but Hester wriggling away.
Hester is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Hester can't escape the position.

Sela lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hester hang on?
Sela has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

You get the feeling that Hester really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Sela seems to be working for a kimura but Hester defends the submission attempt.

That's time! Sela's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hester shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Sela counters with a shoot takedown. Hester fights it but they end up in guard.
Sela prevents Hester from getting back to his feet.

Sela not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Sela here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Hester escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sela gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sela stands up from Hester's guard - Sela perhaps looking for a knockout.

Sela shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sela working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Sela stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Hester to get to his feet.
Hester closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Hester gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sela counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hester's guard now.

Sela wants to control from the top but Hester keeps moving.

Hester pushes a forearm under Sela's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sela is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dave Hester!
