PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Son (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Son comes into the arena with I WILL BE HEARD blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jason Simpson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Son!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Simpson!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Son bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Son takes a little break here. Simpson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simpson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Son controls the position.
Simpson tries to improve position but can't.
Son just content to control the position.
Simpson is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Simpson regains half guard.
Well, if Son is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Daniel Son just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Son has taken the fight to the clinch.

Son turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Son manages to end up in side control.
Simpson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Simpson is looking to improve his position but Son isn't that keen on the idea.

Son is working for a guillotine from mount but Simpson frees his head quite easily.

Son seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Simpson for as long as he can get away with.

Simpson tries to reverse the position but Son maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Son dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Son has managed to clinch.
Simpson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Son avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Son tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Son drops down looking for an ankle pick but Simpson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Simpson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Simpson has left one of his arms exposed and Son doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Simpson screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Daniel Son!
