PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Katana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Konrad Knudsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Katana comes into the arena with Baby got back blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Knudsen's choice of entrance music: Gorgoroth - Destroyer. James Katana has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, James Katana!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Konrad Knudsen!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Katana throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Knudsen is looking to chop away at Katana's legs.
A slow jab from Knudsen misses its intended target.
Knudsen swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Knudsen throws a head kick but Katana moves out of range.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Knudsen.
Knudsen wants to clinch.
Knudsen tries for a takedown but Katana circles away easily

and Katana counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Knudsen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Knudsen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Knudsen has his foot on Katana's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Katana works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Katana trying to control the position from guard on top but Knudsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Knudsen trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knudsen trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Katana tries to stand but Knudsen is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Knudsen is on top in guard.
Katana wants to stand but Knudsen is controlling the position.
Katana wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Knudsen manages to pass to side control.
Knudsen drops an elbow to the side of Katana's head.
Knudsen stops Katana from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Knudsen scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Katana is trying to stand.
Knudsen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ground and pound from Knudsen.
Knudsen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Knudsen is looking for a kimura here.
Knudsen stops Katana from getting back to his feet.
Knudsen scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Knudsen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Katana knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Knudsen on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Katana pushes Knudsen off looking to stand but Knudsen dives back in and keeps control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Knudsen lands a nice short elbow.
Katana is trying to stand.
Katana is refusing to be controlled, as Knudsen sits in half guard.
Knudsen scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Knudsen slips a nice elbow through Katana's hands, connecting with Katana's forehead.
Katana tries to kick Knudsen off but Knudsen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Knudsen drops an elbow to the side of Katana's head.
Knudsen is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Knudsen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Katana keeps working.
Knudsen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Katana with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nice strikes from Knudsen there.

Knudsen seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Katana is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Konrad Knudsen!
Konrad Knudsen is the new lightweight champion!
