Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calico James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cleveland Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into the arena with Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf blaring out of the sound system. Brown is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cleveland Brown Rap. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brown.
A decent looking cross lands there for James.
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brown moves away.
James has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Brown.
James shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brown as he jumps to the side.
James throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
James takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Brown scores with the left hand. James knows he should have avoided that one.
James lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

It looks like Cleveland Brown has been cut.
Brown fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. James looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brown throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
James takes a body punch but keeps moving.

James steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Brown. That one must have hurt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brown has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Brown lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and James has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from James and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

James shoots in but Brown avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Brown comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Brown, right into the meat.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for James. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Brown is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! James had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

James stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Brown.

Brown lands a nice leg kick that just misses James's sensitive parts.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
James takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Brown connects with a high kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Brown. James does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Brown lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Brown just misses with a punch to the body.
Brown fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt James.
Brown's hands are dropping dangerously low here and James connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Brown scrambles back to his feet.

Brown uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before James has time to react.

James is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

and James takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

James shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brown pinned against the cage. Brown gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
James cracks Brown with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
James takes a kick to the side of the head.

and Brown counters with a good low kick that James was not able to check.

James closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brown to the mat! Brown manages to get full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brown wants to stand up but James is controlling him.
Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James misses the body punch
and Brown connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Brown has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

James throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brown was covering up waiting for the punch and James finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brown can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
James thows a big elbow that misses.
James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cleveland Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

James looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
